The server hosting glpics.com and mafiascum.net experianced a hard disk failure, and they didn't have a backup... so yeah... it's gone.

I'm really not happy about this at all, and I don't want to deal with it right now (as there is nothing that I can do) so I probably won't be on much this weekend.

I backed the whole thing up June 10, when I was reinstalling everything on my computer. Antrax or jeep may have backed up the database since then, which would be great, but I don't know if they have.

theres a $50 deal there that give 3gb space and 75 gb transfer, i just didnt see it first

Alright, more bad news. I'm starting to get annoyed.

The backup that I thought I had apparently didn't work or something (basically, it backed up a bunch of NULL values for everything). Another one I have from back in March is also not uploading.

jeep or Hy, I assume you have *some* backup of mafiascum from last time we had to switch servers (because one of you got the thing to work). I suppose you should just go ahead and use that for now while I check to see if I have another one lying around somewhere. Hopefully some people have got some good cache stuff.

I'd also like to talk with you (and everyone) about ways we can stop this sort of stuff from happening any more. One thing I'd like to start doing is making some sort of text file of completed games (and ongoing ones once a week or something), just with name/date/post. A script to do that would be nice. That way, all our archives of games are safe on my computer, and the computer of anyone else who wants them, and we'd have a way to restore parts of the database. We need to figure out why the backup stuff isn't working, and several of us need to regularly back the thing up (Antrax was for a while, and then thought I was doing it when I wasn't so he stopped). And some other stuff, I'm too tired and annoyed to think about yet.

I got nothing. The only database backup I ever made was on the server that crashed. I do have all the forum php scripts, however.

I'll finally be on-line a little more often over the next few weeks.

Everyone playing Mafia on Mafiascum probably has fragments of threads in their local web browser caches. They can all send in what they have and Mith can recontruct the threads from them.
