I'm a lefty. Anyone else? Ever get any grief over it? Have trouble using scissors?
ps: Quailman is a righty. Trust me. I know. |

Well, stubby-wise I'm a left leaner but I think that's because I'm a righty.

so are you proud of being a mutant? (I'm a righty).
But are you any good at chess? I have an interesting theory... |

| Lefties: please dont take up the sport of fencing. There are already too many of you backwards people that have small targets. |

Back in my high school days the captain of our team was a lefty. I was the second best fencer in the state. I never could beat him, but I got to practice against him all the time, so other lefties never phased me. |

| I'm right handed, but use my left hand quite a lot, especially when dealing cards, I deal left handed and play left handed. Eating by hand too like chips or crisps, I do left handed. Also, many moons ago when I was boxing, I was able to switch between southpaw and orthadox throughout a bout with no lead punch or jab problems. |

i'm an original lefty forced to righty (which supposedly triggered a speech disorder)
anyways i'm righty, but i play 'lefty' for icehockey. this is odd, because in slovakia almost everyone i know plays 'lefty' in ice hockey, while here in england i was the only 'lefty' on the team. hmm.... |

Hmmmm right handed, but ambi-foot-strous.. When I played soccer I could pass and kick equally well with either foot. I had lots of fun with my opponents, they never knew which side to block
Here's a trick I learned to determine how dominant your left or right hand is:
Fold your hands behind your back, fingers laced (like in prayer). Check which thumb is over the other. Often right hande people will have their left thumb up and vice versa. That (supposedly ) indicates the ability to use your other hand as well.

| Not quite up to notch with my left foot yet -- it doesn't exactly react as quickly -- but generally it's the same for me. Quite fun, really. |

I am left handed for precision movements (although you could never tell that with my penmenship ), stuff like using the mouse in gaming etc. But for throwing etc, I'm generally right handed.
As for footedness in Socer, I was equally good either way. Man.. I miss playing soccer, best sport in the world.
And Left handed is no longer just 10% of the population. It's closer to equal last I checked. The reason the percentage was so small before is teachers etc. would train children to use the right hand no matter what hand they were better with.
Silly right handers, think you rule the world. Your time is limited! |

Yep. The English language in general is biased against lefties. Check the etymologies of the words "sinister" and "gauche"; you'll see what I mean. |

| I couldn't be more right handed without amputations. Same goes for my feet, so I'd have to throw sand at my opponents to confuse them. |

| I write, shoot and use the mouse left-handed, but I throw and kick right-handed, which probably means I'm just screwed up. |

| I am also screwed up. I write, kick and throw righty. I bat, golf and hockey lefty. I can fence, box, and play tennis or table tennis equally well with either hand. If I eat with a fork and knife, the knife goes in my right hand. If I eat with just a fork, it goes in my right hand. But if I eat with a spoon, I have to use my left. |

| I'm very, very right-limbed for the most part, except when it comes to talking on the phone. I've noticed that I can only do that with my left hand (and ear). When it comes to dancing, though, I'm amazed at how much more flexible and strong my right leg is than my left...I don't really understand it, since I've always been under the impression that you dance with BOTH your legs...is it possible to unconsciously favor one side over the other? ::shrugs:: |

I'm jealous of "lefties", I always wanted to be left handed instead of right. I think it is so cool for some reason.

| Musical instruments are right-handed. The hand that always supports the most weight is the right one. I'm lefty, and I taught myself to use those darn right-handed scissors with my left hand.... starts to hurt after a while though, cause you have to force your thumb in a different direction. I use my mouse with my right hand, though, so my left is free for... other things... like food and the TV remote! |

(Righty here, for the record. My left hand isn't useful for very much at all, though I've been told I punch harder with it.)
Lucresia: Most likely you're kind of like me and want to be unique and special and superior no matter what, so you prize qualities that are rare without being handicaps. People who label themselves "gay" without actually being attracted to people of the same sex have a more extreme case of the same thing. (I know, I briefly was one, and I also had the same "wish I was a lefty" thing as well for a while when I was little.) |

I'm right handed, but only slightly. I'm extremely uncoordinated with both hands, so I'm glad I can use a keyboard and this can be read. My grandmother is opposite me in a lot of that. She can write, write upside-down, write sideways and write backwards extremely well with either hand.
A theory I find interesting is that a shortage of blood flow to the right hand and/or left hemisphere of the brain can cause left-handedness. Hmmm. No other differences are all that common between left and right handers, so I don't know.
------------------
O.K., so how did I screw up this time?

So, noone is interested in my theory? Ok, here it goes: Lefties play better with black pieces. It has a rationale. Can anyone comment?

But do you notice when you turn that you favour right over left? When I dance, my left foot is always the lead, I can turn to the right leading with the left foot, and spin faster than when I try turning to the left (ie, using my right foot to lead). Trying to do any dance move, and I start with the left. Trying to do the same move mirrored (starting right), I often can't do it or soon change back to the left leading.
As for your chess theory, referee, I, a lefty, win more often with white pieces. Does your theory have to do with the side of the board the queen is on?

| with the side the king is on indeed. Castle kingside is much more usual than castle queenside, and then the king being on the left (for black) or on the right (for white) is much clearer. So one would expect that some stress is put in that wing, and that one fares better when that wing is in the side he or she favors. |
