I was just reading a few posts at www.imdb.com and one of them was about favorite "little moments" from the LOTR films. That got me wondering what some of your favorite film moments are.

One of my favorites is at the end of The Two Towers when Same and Frodo are walking through the woods and Sam's doing his whole "They'll be telling stories about you" thing. Their little conversation was the only time in the whole movie that I remember Frodo being happy. In fact, maybe the only time since he took the ring. I almost cried the first time I saw it.

Another of my favorites is Chamberlain's speech to the men from the 2nd Maine in Gettysburg. I love the part where he says something like, "You must come join the 20th Maine. I have been told taht I can shoot anyone who refuses. Don't worry, I'm not going to shoot any of you." (I know, that's a horrid paraphrase, but you know what I'm talking about.)

I also love later in the film when Chamberlain's brother practically jumps off a moving horse to tell him that almost all of the 2nd Maine men have decided to join the 20 Maine.

Fixed your link - DP

Ditto to The Big Lebowski

Also the moments ,(you know the ones if you've seen the films) in The Usual Suspects and LA Confidential where the entire plot gets turned on its head.

Forrest Gump: when Forrest was describing the beauty he came across while running, fishing, hiking thru the rain and it clears up, etc, to Jenny as she was laying in bed dying.

The Sixth Sense: Olivia dropping the wedding ring.

Shawshank Redemption: Red going to the hiding place to look for the stash out in the country.

Spirited Away: The train trip to Yubaba's sister.

Toy Story: Buzz not accepting that he can't fly, climbing up to the top of the stairs, then jumped.

A Beautiful Mind: the drawing-new-constellations scene
(I despised most of the rest of the movie)
Braveheart: execution of Wallace's wife
Hackers: at Burn's party, the instant shift from pissed at them for invading her privacy to bubbly conversation about her new computer's specs
Princess Mononoke: Ashitaka staring at San as she wipes the blood from her face
Shawshank Redemption: same as Vinny's

For Braveheart, my favorite scene was when Mel Gibson was on the rack and he saw his dead wife wandering around in the crowd.

A few favorite funny scenes I can think of:

Junior : when Arnold was having contractions and he was being carried down the stairs, disguised as a woman, and he was moaning "oh sh*t, oh sh*t, oh sh*t" in a semi female voice, then he suddenly screamed "OH SH*T!" in that low Arnold's voice. Classic.

A Fish Called Wanda: Michael Palins trying to kill the old lady and ends up killing all her dogs. Especially the scene where he dropped a crate on the dog while she was walking it, and she was just looking aroudn confused. Ahahahahahhaa!

Tommy Boy: Farley breaking David Spade's car door while he was getting gas.

Le violin rouge When the sonic probes of the violin are overlayed with Anna Busotti in pain.
Reloaded The massive rave/Neo and Trinity alone, which most people I've talked to were annoyed by (crucial to Neo's character, IMO).

Kenneth Branagh as Henry V, in the film of the same name, giving the St. Crispin's Day speech just before the battle of Agincourt.
Bloody damn marvelous.

Both of the Russian Roulette Scenes from The Deer Hunter.

The plastic bag scene from American Beauty (to this day I've not seen anything which has affected me anywhere near as deeply as that scene did)

The Mexican standoff from Reservoir Dogs

The Masked "Gathering" from Eyes Wide Shut

The first scene of Full Metal Jacket

The scene where Clint Eastwood corners Scorpio on the football field in Dirty Harry

The whole Italian segment of The Godfather

Michael Corleone's death scene in The Godfather part III, simple, beautiful, possibly the best death scene in movie history.

Franks first scene with Isabella Rossalini in Blue Velvet

Tom Cruise's confessional scene where he visits the family of a fellow soldier he killed by mistake in Born on the Fourth of July

Kevin Spacey's first scene in Seven "DetecIIIIIVE!"

The delicatessen scene from When Harry met Sally

The final gang battle from City of God

Hannibal Lecters escape in Silence of the Lambs

Also from 'Silence...' the scene where Buffalo Bill is watching Clarice through his night vision goggles, a definite contender the most tense scene ever committed to celluloid.

Orson Welle's Cuckoo Clock speech from The third man

The scene from Scary Movie where the Cindy is throwing crockery at the serial killer and he's dodging it Matrix style and puts his back out.

The scene from The Matrix where the chopper slams into the building.

The final scene of Rosemary's Baby where she finally finds out everything that's been going on.

Tony Montana's death scene in Scarface (the Al Pacino version)

There are plenty more where they came from but, yeah, those one's are pretty cool IMO

PS - Vinny great choices, esp. the Shawshank Redemption one.

From my favourite moveie, which is full of these:

[Indiana Jones is asking Henry how he could've slept with Elsa]
Professor Henry Jones: I'm as human as the next man.
Indiana Jones: Dad, I was the next man!

From the same:

Indiana: How did you know she was a Nazi?
Henry: She talks in her sleep.

It's pretty funny in context.

My favorite Indiana Jones scene is when Indy finishes fighting off or evading several bad guys in the street a bad guy in a ninja outfit approaches him while making few openhanded martial arts moves, so Indy pulls out his revolver and shoots him. They make the audience think there's going to be some corny, karate movie type fight scene and then don't do it.

The Bird Cage, when the senator asks, "How many mothers does Val have?" and Val says, "Just one...Albert."

Lethal Weapon when Riggs (Mel Gibson) handcuffs himself to the would-be suicide, and jumps.

G.I. Jane at the very, very end, when Master Chief gives her his medal and the book with his favorite poem underlined.

And I agree with Courk's and Bearty's and most of Vinny's.
