Well the good news is that the domains seem to be back up. (if they're not for you, then they soon will)

HyToFry.com is still down, and will be for a while. Sorry. I'm taking vacation (holiday for you English) next week, and I'll get it back up when I get home.

The new glpics.com front end won't be back up until I get back either. You'll have to use the old upload for now. Again, sorry. I'll leave Antrax with the info he needs to set up ftp access if you're in dier need, but he's leaving after the weekend too...

And now an announcement.
With the new host that I found, I have a bit of extra space that I'm willing to sell off.

What I'm offering (and this offer is only valid to GLers, or close friends there of. This isn't a buisiness, this is just a way to help finance glpics.com.)

100 meg of space.
1 gig of transfer.
Unlimited everything else. (ftp accounts, pop3 accounts, mysql accounts, subdomains, etc, etc. Plus you get shell access (which I will take if you even try to abuse. )
$5.00 a month. (I dare you to find a better deal. )
If you need more space, like 200 meg, just double the price, etc.

If you're interested, then email me. (I know this is a bad time to offer this seems as how the server just crashed and lost everything, but I did research this server and they had a good reputation. They've been around since 1999, so they're established.) Also, you can download backups of your sites whenever you want from the cpanel.

If you don't have a domain name, then you can buy one for 8.95 a year from https://registrar.godaddy.com/default.asp?isc=&se=%2B&from%5Fapp=&authGuid=

So you're saying, if we buy a domain name of our own, you can host it (up to the specifications listed) for just $5/month?

Courk, CrystyB, Cadmium, ferris, plexer, and thedocter... I'll need you to resend me your ftp passwords. The only backup I had of these was the upload.cgi files which you deleted.

mudster... I'm very very sorry for you loss. I know it sucks to lose posts. Same goes for all mafiascum.net users.

Anyone who has broadband, and would like to help me maintain backups of glpics.com, please let me know. The archive files should run over 300 meg each, but if you have a cd burner, it should be easy. I think about one a week should do it.

An even better deal, as long as you sign up for 35 months or more:

I'm considering moving to a dedicated server... if I can get about 10 people to pay five bucks a month for 1 gig of storage then I might do it...

(note, that's monthly. I'm not going to charge you for 36 months up front. @lypha.)

glpics.com's user interface is back up (with a spiffy new updated version)

you can log in here: www.glpics.com

if for some reason, you're having problems--and a few of you will because I no longer have your passwords--then just email me and I'll fix it right up.

If you sign up for a new account using the interface at www.glpics.com, then you will not have ftp access, nor will you have a subdomain. To get ftp access and a subdomain, you'll have to email me to request it. Just set up an account using the interface, and then email me with the username that you used. I'll take care of the rest.

Again, I'm sorry to those of you who lost stuff. I wish I could do something to get it back, but it's out of my hands.

My wife and I pay for hosting for a few sites. (All high quality stuff too .) We would be interested in two of the $5/mo - 1 gig deals, maybe more if everything tranfers smoothly.

Questions:
What OS?
Has Cpanel?
What type of connection would you be using?
Perl?
database software?
Database limits?
ftp?
shell access?
Subdomains?
Transfer limits?
# of pop3 accounts?

Sorry if any of these questions have obvious answers, but I don't like to assume.

What OS? linux/unix.
[...]Cpanel question moved to bottom.
What type of connection would you be using? Looks like they have a few Gigabit, two GigE, and some DS3 and OC3 connections. It's the same company that's currently hosting glpics.com, mafiascum.net, et al.
Perl? Of course.
database software? mySQL
Database limits? Unlimited databases.
ftp? Yuppers.
shell access? For sure.
Transfer limits? x10 your space. So 10 gig.
# of pop3 accounts? unlimited.
Subdomains? Yes, unlimited, and you can have subdomains act as domains. (but I might have to set them up... they would have their own cpanels, etc.) Also: unlimited domains. (again, I'll have to set up domains, and they can't share space, unless it's a parked domain.)

Has Cpanel?
It can... I'm leaning toward Ensim. It's quite cool indeed. It has three seperate control panel areas. One for the admin (that's me setting up domains, etc.) One for the site (that's your's) and one for users (eg: glpics.com users can log in and download an archive backup of their subdomain.) Neat indeed.

note: the 1 gig of space isn't available yet... but if I get the dedicated server, then it will be.

Mudster: your message board is working again. Sorry about the delay, but I really didn't know.

well... the original post was because mudster would have lost ever post on his private board that was posted between the time that glpics.com moved, and the time that it crashed.

A couple of days ago, I went to his board to see if the users were fairly pissed off... and it wasn't working at all. I tinkered for a bit, to no avail.

So I sent a trouble ticket, and they fixed it. I knew he had lost posts, but I didn't know that his board was down.

The dedicated server sounds great. My current hosting causes my web site to be down every morning . One last question:

FrontPage extensions?

If yes, count me in for two accounts (plus jeep's 3 gets us halfway there).

If we run Cpanel instead of Ensim (which we might) then we'll still have front page extensions. Note!!: I don't think you can run ASP programs on linux servers... if you're just using Front Page for .html files, then you'll be fine.
