Indeed, they are! And they're tax deductable! For only a tax deductable $25 investment ($20 for educators), you can adopt one of several manatees. That same investment also gives you a 1 year membership in the Save the Manatee Club. Membership includes newsletters, a picture of your manatee, a certificate saying who you adopted and where s/he lives, a biography of your manatee, and, possibly, a free gift. (For August, a free book comes with a tax deductable $40 donation.) Every year they will send you a notice to renew your membership. If you choose to, you can adopt a different manatee and watch your collection grow! Also, with the newsletters comes a manatee catalogue which include items such as earrings, bracelets, magnets, pens, windchimes, books, etc.

Even more reasons why you should adopt a manatee!

Blue Spring adoptees
Homosassa Springs adoptees
Tampa Bay adoptees

Membership Levels

Simply choose one of the manatees listed, then fill out this form, and you're all set.

Mantees adopted by GLers:
Phyllis, Brutus, Arial, Doc, and Paddy Doyle (by me), and Merlin and Lorelei (by Chuck).

"PHILIP was born in the summer of 1982. As a youngster, Philip was one of the most playful manatees at Blue Spring. He also seems to love canoes and follows the research canoe everywhere!"

Freaky. I'm a manatee.

Hello PHILIP! Good to meet you! We're with the "save the manatee" committee!
Our research canoe is now fitted with an outboard motor.

It isn't just to help us "researchers" get around but we...well...come and swim under our canoe so we can put an identifying mark on you! We will use our rescue canoe scar to identify you and keep track of you! Why, we may just pull up along side you in the future, scar you some more (only for id purposes, we don't enjoy this I assure you).

So get the hell out of here, Philip! This is no time for five times five! Swim for your Christan life, you god fearing bastard!

(edited because Phill's name only contains one "L")

Just rename your image file to a .txt extension and upload it. If you've already uploaded it to geocities, just use the rename feature to rename it from a .jpg or .gif extension to a .txt extension...

Or just get a glpics.com account.

You wanna save the manatee? Start eating 'em. Think about it, you know of many animals we eat that are near extinct? Just take a look at the cows! You make Manatee a prime cousine dish, you'll get a bunch of people starting to breed 'em to sell for meat, and before ya know it, we will have no problems with low populations of manatees.

In order for people to start eating them, they have to be removed from the Endangered Species list. In order for that to happen, they have to be saved now. Save manatees now so your children can enjoy manatee roasts!
