There's a lot to be learned from the contestants on The Weakest Link. Here are some answers to math questions that I never knew before watching the show.
  • A trapezoid has five sides
  • South is 180° from West
  • 25% of 88 is 25
  • There are three right angles in a right triangle
  • 6×6×2 = 24
  • The square root of 121 is 7
  • There are 20 quarters in a dollar
  • There are 40 nickles in a dollar
  • two thirds of 75 is 25
Contestants on Jeopardy get harder problems and do much better. I guess Weakest Link can't afford to screen contestants.

I have seen a few others where they messed up on addition problems (it was the wrestling episode, so what can we expect.) My plan for income in the future is to go on every game show and win. I don't think this one should be too difficult.

I completely disagree with you Master. You think they'll actually let someone with a good chance of winning play? I disagree with Chuck too. They screen contestants to make sure they aren't going to be giving away too much money. Besides, nobody would watch the show if they didn't get to see Anne Robinson bash the contestants.

Which makes me realize I haven't watched it since the first few episodes. The bashing got old and the intelligence level tedious. I think the program says more about the viewer than anything else. If it weren't for the fact that Chuck probably pulled this out of an e mail, I'd be worried about him.

I've watched people make fools of themselves thinking if only I could be there. Then I remember that I'm kicked back in a lazy boy with a beer in my hand and nothing at stake. On The Weakest Link, the contestants have but seconds to blurt an answer, and sometimes they're thinking should I bank it or not. It's hard enough to be on the spot and trying to regurgitate trivia, but to actually have to perform calculations in your head adds a level of difficulty.

So how many nickels are there in a dollar, anyway?

I got these from the afternoon version of the show. It's a half hour show with a male moderator, six players, less time on the clock, less money, and three head to head questions at the end. The most they can get if they ace every round is $75,000. The final prize money is usually in the $3,000 to $9,000 range. There's nothing else on at 4:30 in the afternoon.

There's a time limit on the round but not on an individual question. For a math question I think it would be worth spending some additional time to get it right rather than break a chain by blurting out a guess.

What gets me is when they actually get hard questions, and get them right, then there is a really stupid person that doesn't bank even though they see the clock is at 2 seconds left...or they don't bank because they have so much confidence in themeselves, and they miss an easy question. GAH! Oh what is worse....on one of these afternoon shows, they had all teachers on...they missed all these easy questions..Like the history teacher missing a history question that even I knew! gah! *gets angry at stupidity* *wishes she was older so she could book a flight to the tapings and go on the show*

Agrees w/ Quailman

On Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, the 4th lifeline should be: "Turn off annoying music and make Regis shut up".

On a side note, I happened to saw the Star Trek episode of The Weakest Link (with Robinson), and they got the highest amount of money ever on the show (something like $130,000). Then again, during the face-off, "The Doctor" claimed that the period was the puntuation mark over the 1 on a keyboard...

...uhmm and how many Cs in "brocoli"?

anyways, theres a tv show in slovakia called "what the street can do" or something like that, they go around town with mic and ask dumb questions (i guess untill) to get even more stupid answers. heres few:

how many players in a quartet?
i dont know, many, a few dozens...

whats the difference between vertical and horizontal?
vertical is like very big and horizontal is even more... (???)

how many poles does the earth have?
13 (????)

where is the statue of liberty?
i don't know, i don't get out very much...

give the three names of beings within the holy trinity.
bush, gorbachov, and the english guy... whats his name...

how many haliers is 20% of a crown? (our currency)
22 (?)
how did you figure that out?
quickly, eh?!

5 + 3 = ? Incorrect answers: 7,7,7,7,4,15

Anybody see the "Best Moments in Game Show History" in the USA last week? There was a clip from The Newlywed Game (no, not THAT clip-although they did show THAT clip at the end of the hour) where they asked the wife:
Q: What is your husband's favorite condiment
A (contestant #1): "the pool table upstairs"
A (contestant #2): "I don't know what that word means either, so I'm going to say taking karate lessons."

*shrug* be always prepared?... who the heck knows these?

a standard rifle is composed of four main parts. they are these three: barrel and stock.

check this out, this had really happened:

(uhm, first some language background - in slovak the word "os" means axis, ok, on with the show)

highschool setting. class trying to show the understanding of trig functions. a guy is factoring a trig expression on the blackboard trying get something decent out of the nasty bunch of fractions, teacher staring at him. after a good while of torture and hints he had finally managed to put on the board what the rest of the class thought to be the end of it. the produced expression was:

cos (x) / c

a sudden light of understanding flashed across his face as he said: aaahhhh, the c's cancel out and we are left with the x axis!

For some reason, we get shown the American version of the show as well as the British version and it's interesting seeing the differences they make to accomodate the different audiances.

In the American show, Ann wears a lot more makeup and the prize money is much higher.
