A very basic and crude version can be found here:

When you ask how the maps would be worked, my idea was to use maps with no colours within territory boundaries. Then, using Photoshop (or such), each territory has a circle placed in it. This master file is saved with all the layers unflattened, but a jpg version is also exported. The jpg file is the one posted for player viewing.

Then, when turns started, the circles were filled with the colour of the player, and the number of armies in the territory at the beginning of the turn. The file was saved again, then exported to the player-viewable jpg file.

Similarly, in the RISK II version I play, I'd also have arrows with the number of armies pointing to the territory being attacked. So there's the initial map at the start of a turn, one that shows the attacks, and after the resolution, the map for the next turn.

But it's a heck of a lot of work, graphically.

Mith tried this once. It failed quite badly, as turns aren't taken simultaneously, as in Diplomacy...

In Same-Time Risk - they are, but it's very hard to track.

i don't think THAT's the problem. When i played it again some time ago to refresh my memory on those turns, i found out i make decisions for my moves based on the outcome of *one* battle. So every player's turn would mean lots of communication between him and the mod...

i was thinking, just play in the read, players saym yada, attack yada, take yada units, then i roll the dice, post results, then they say either attacka gain or retreat. next move, etc, next player, REPEAT, and so on

There's no map for Newfoundland! Why is my province always left off in non-Canadian cartography?

Oh, I'll play, if someone else mods it.

In Risk II, the computer game, a "Same-Time" game turn is resolved in several independent "phases" which I think I have in order:

  • Players trade cards for armies and build - players interact with mod independently
  • Diplomacy between players (interactive - mod only needs to set a time limit, players interact among themselves)
  • Players enter attack orders - players interact with mod independently
  • Battle round - divided into more levels as attacks are resolved as required - all players interact with mod and other players for attack resolution
    • Border clashes - two territories attacking one another until one wins at the border. Remaining troops go on to invade the original target
    • Mass invasions - multiple territories attacking one territory. If the target is defeated, there will be a battle for spoils of war
    • Invasions - one territory attacking the home armies of another
    • Spoils of war - several players contesting for one territory after having defeated the home forces
    • Surge Attacks - each player can have one surge attack - that is, an attack that goes through to another territory after a win against the first territory
    • Tactical Move - reinforce by moving armies from one territoy to another owned adjacent territory - players give to mod

  • End turn - cards are awarded; any eliminated players' cards are transferred to the victor - mod gives to players independently

I don't remember if you can retreat from all battles, and there's a definite advantage throgh the use of minimum/maximum rolls for an attacker with more armies - strength in numbers.

Cello and I have the new Lord of the Rings Risk. It is loads of fun. You don't have to know anything about lord of the rings to play it, but if you do you'll like it even more.
