Before we ask another general, let's brainstorm a bit more on what sport it could be. In addition to the ones mentioned above:

- darts
- chess
- whist/bridge
- tabletennis

Others ??

No to good on UK sport history but is'nt Darts and Table tennis more recent? And you Dragon should know of any chess players
Was'nt real tennis played indoors? Just trying to think back a hundred years or so.

Aga, I didn't think you were being sarcastic I was eliminating the ones that are hardest to Google

And I'll go look up Foxe, to see if he had a Canadian arctic bay named after him

Duph: If I want to be pedantic, no, I'm not. But broadly speaking, Yes, I am he who you speak of. One has to state if it be bare fist or gloved world champion
(If being pedantic, he was technically an American citizen when he won the world heavyweight title)

Name away Duph old chum!

Note:
He was also world Middleweight and Light Heavyweight champion too.

Totally correct Duph old chum, well done.
Thought if being precise and following historic thought, Jack Broughton or Jack Slack (way back in 1750) were actually known as 'world champions' long beofre Fitzsimmons came into the ring. It's still undecided who out of the two is honoured with the first world title, but both were regarded as 'World and British champions'.

Bearty, I stand corrected. It seems that Foxe has a basin and not a bay named after him.

He said Bobby "Fisher" in reply 36 -- right guy, wrong spelling.

Willy Wonka's nemesis was Fickelgruber.
