Do we have to go to Tell The Truth, or anywhere in bold? - Jadesmar has chosen Name That Tune, is that Okay?

(if it is, I would suggest you (Jadesmar) should reconsider as Hitchhiker has already gone there)

A museum curator walsk up to Duphrates and offers to help. "You may head for any revealed location, bolded or no, so long as there is no obstacle blacking the path. There are currently no obstacles within the museum so you may choose any revealed location. Wherever you go, you will have to walk through the To Tell The Truth exhibit along the way, and that it the only reason it was mentioned as a 'general direction.'

If there is a specific rule you are unsure about, feel free to ask and an Islands representative will try to clear things up. The Getaway is essentially a trivia competition in which competitors are gradually eliminated. Therefore the objective is to be player who is not eliminated. There are a couple of little extras here and there, but your primary reason for being here is to test your knowledge of facts and figures."

Duphrates: I would be happy to change my destination.
1) Why?

Hitchhiker has an expansive knowledge of music trivia as do I. I feel that one of us will know the answer at this exhibit.

I was under the impression that bolded items were irreversible: that one could not change an answer or a location, once selected. I may be misimpressed.

Round 8: Action

This update flashes on the video monitors in the kiosks.

Here is a current roster of the members of the two tour groups.

LANO-CATRU
Corsato
Dragon Phoenix
jesternl
mikeamok
PuzzleProdigy
referee
Saxifrage
Sofis
Tahnan

OCAGRU
Agamemnon
Duphrates
Hitchhiker
jadesmar
mikegoo
mole
Qaqaq
RequiemEternam
Tablesaw
Termital

The following visitors have been randomly assigned to locations.

jesternl (Ready...Set…Cook!)
mikegoo (I’ve Got a Secret)
referee (Ready...Set…Cook!)
Sofis (Name That Tune)
Termital (Family Feud)

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire store turns out to be something of a flea market. Visitor Qaqaq goes through used merchandise that the show has apparently discarded. A cardboard box labeled "Rejected Lifeline Ideas" catches the eye, and Qaqaq discovers these items inside.

25:25:25:25 Cards—3 Struthio Coins
(See Post 287 for full description)

Tablesaw checks out The Price Is Right Mall in which the merchandise is displayed within mockups of the pricing games used on the long-running show. Only one item seems to be in the price range of Tablesaw.

"Cliff Hangers" Climbing Gear—2 Struthio Coins
(See Post 287 for full description)

Visitors mikegoo and mole make their way to the exhibit for the classic Goodson/Todman panel show I’ve Got A Secret. "My goodness, that’s a young looking Bill Cullen," mikegoo remarks while going through a photo gallery of the panelists. mole sits at the replica of the desk occupied by Garry Moore on the show. A museum employee, posing as a contestant, strolls into the exhibit, sits at the Garry Moore desk and prepares to give her secret. "This question is worth eight Struthio coins," whispers the employee.

7X is a code name for the secret flavoring mixture used in the manufacture of what product?

During the approach to the Tic Tac Dough exhibit, visitor RequiemEternam covers the ears just in case the awful theme music from the classic quiz show begins playing. A museum worker dressed as Wink Matindale, and one dressed as a blocky, low-resolution dragon greets RequiemEternam and invites the visitor to try a question on the Tic Tac Dough board. "A correct answer," Wink says, "is worth eight Struthio coins." "Rrrrr," says the dragon. There is a categroy shuffle on the game board and than this question appears.

Name three different names of currency used as the primary monetary units of nations in South America (for the terms of this question a pair of currencies modified by the adjectival from of a nation, such as Swiss franc and Belgian franc, are not considered different).

Visitors Agamemnon, Tahnan and Termital find that they must arrange themselves in stilted poses on Victorian furniture before the door to the Family Feud exhibit opens. Disco-hoedown music begins playing and the visitors begin studying the historical information about the show. The visitors huddle around the central podium and a new survey board is revealed on the wall above them. The visitors understand that one hundred Custodia islanders were surveyed and that they all came up with the right answer to this question, and if the visitors also answer it correctly, they will win eight coins.

What are the surnames of the two feuding families in William Shakespeare’s "Romeo and Juliet"?

Visitors Dragon Phoenix and PuzzleProdigy check out the High Rollers exhibit. They observe the large novelty dice, an information board describing the rules of the old game and large photo of Ruta Lee. "This looked like a fun game," one visitor remarks, "I think it’s due for a comeback." A note left for the visitors tells them that they can read the 8-coin question by rolling the gold dice. They give the dice a good roll on the green felt table and find this question on the top faces of the golden cubes.

What is the term for the concentrated resin that is extracted from the flowering tops of the female hemp plant and may be used as an intoxicant?

Upon entering the Ready…Set…Cook! Exhibit, visitors jesternl, referee and Saxifrage are immediately thrust into the fray of anxious chefs trying to prepare entrees with mystery ingredients. "Could you hand me that gravy boat," one chef asks a visitor. "I could use a hand with this chicken noodle sloop," says another. I’m going to toss over this bag of junk food…ketch!" says a third. "Are you sensing a nautical theme with these particular recipes?" one visitor asks another. The deduction proves to be well-founded after a museum curator hands the group of visitors a tomato printed with this 8-coin question.

What ship did Captain James Cook command while charting the coast of New Zealand in the 1760s?

Duphrates checks out the Bumper Stumpers exhibit. Other than a biography of Al DuBois and walls filled with novelty license plates there isn’t much to say about the exhibit. Duphrates spots a plate bearing the license number 4-8COYNZ and removes it from the display wall. On the back of the plate is this question.

What stripper born Louise Hovick was the subject of a 1959 Broadway musical with songs by Jules Styne and Stephen Sondheim?

The Name That Tune exhibit is lively with music, and visitors Corsato, Hitchhiker, jadesmar and Sofis observe from the number of other people here that this must be one of the most popular locations in the museum. Many of the original musicians from Tommy Oliver’s orchestra play segments from songs and the museum patrons enjoy trying to guess the titles as quickly as possible. A museum official approaches the visitors and says, "Ah, you are from the Custodia Islands Getaway group. Your question, worth eight Struthio coins is over here." The official leads the visitors to a writing desk and gives them a card with the question on it. "I hope you weren’t expecting a question about music," the official adds with a wink.

What dysfunctional behavior in an automobile engine is sometimes described as "dieseling"?

At the Pantomime Quiz exhibit, mikeamok watches as the museum patrons gesticulate wildly in games of charades. "Do you know why this show never really advanced beyond the status of summer-replacement series?" mikeamok asks a museum patron. The patron tugs an earlobe and strikes two fingers on the opposite elbow, but otherwise says nothing. Finally, a patron hands the bowl of paper slips to mikeamok. Sensing that there may be more than meets the eye to this charades game, mikeamok eagerly picks a slip and reads this trivia question worth eight Struthio coins.

What pair of pantomimists, with the first names Robert and Lorene, hosted a variety television series on CBS in the late 1970s?

Lano-Catru Balance: $20
Ocagru Balance: $24

Round 9: Movement

Qaqaq finds a sales representative and purchases one 25:25:25:25 card at The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire store. The representative rings up the purchase by deducting three coins from the Ocagru account. The map in at this store, Qaqaq observes, points the way to the nearby $100,000 Pyramid exhibit.

At The Price Is Right Mall, a salesperson approaches Tablesaw to see if there is the possibility of a sale. Tablesaw expresses interest in buying a set of climbing gear and the salesperson deducts two coins from the Ocagru account. Tablesaw notes that the map at the mall shows the path back to the Wheel of Fortune exhibit.

Visitors mikegoo and mole respond to the I’ve Got A Secret trivia question with "Coca-Cola." A canned applause recording is turned on and the museum employee hands over eight coins for the visitors to deposit on the Ocagru account. The map in this area, in addition to Blankety Blank, has two locations obscured by gray film. When the film is removed, the locations turn out to be the exhibits for Remote Control and Queen for a Day.

RequiemEternam carefully forms an answer to the challenge at the Tic Tac Dough exhibit. RequiemEternam begins with "Real" and an image resembling the outline of Brazil appears in one of the tic-tac-toe squares. After RequiemEternam says "Peso," an image of Argentina appears in another square. RequiemEternam says "Dollar," and a long pause ensues. Finally, an image of Guyana appears in a third tic-tac-toe square. The three squares form a tic-tac-toe win, so RequiemEternam deduces that the answers were all correct and that the Ocagru tour group will receive eight coins. RequiemEternam scratched the surface of the map at this exhibit and finds arrows pointing to the stairways leading to the Twenty-One and Shop ‘Til You Drop exhibits. The directions to the Blankety Blank exhibit are also included.

At the Family Feud exhibit visitors Agamemnon, Tahnan and Termital try the answer "Montague and Capulet." Which the prompting line "Survey says?" the answer given by the visitors appears on the survey board indicating that it is correct. The eight coins are split evenly between the Lano-Catru and Ocagru tribes and the visitors check out the map in this area. They find directions to the exhibits for Play the Percentages, Let’s Make a Deal and The Cross-Wits.

"Hashish," respond Dragon Phoenix and PuzzleProdigy to the golden dice question at the High Rollers exhibit. The runner lights on the green felt table light up and synthesizer chords blare triumphantly. The faces of the golden dice open up to reveal the Struthio coins that were hidden inside. With the Lano-Catru account eight coins richer, Dragon Phoenix and PuzzleProdigy look for the map to see what new areas can be reached from the current location. In addition to The Cross-Wits exhibit, the visitors find routes to the exhibits for Friend or Foe and The Newlywed Game.

At the Ready…Set…Cook! Exhibit, visitors jesternl, referee and Saxifrage give "Discover" as their answer. The chefs at the exhibit glower at the visitors in obvious disapproval. "The correct answer is ‘Endeavour,’" shouts one of the chefs. "You’re incorrect answer has cause my soufflé to fall!" The chefs begin hurling various vegetables at visitors jesternl, referee and Saxifrage. The visitors retreat from the exhibit knowing that they will not receive any coins at this location and they will have to go through the Crystal Maze in order to continue exploring the museum.

Duphrates guesses "Gypsy Rose Lee" at the Bumper Stumpers exhibit. A green light next to another license plate begins flashing. Duphrates, noting that the license plate reads UR-RIGHT!, removes the plate from the wall. There is a niche behind the plate and Duphrates is able to collect eight coins for the Ocagru treasury. The map in this area, when cleaned of gray film, shows paths to three adjacent locations: the Concentration exhibit, the Cram exhibit and the Crystal Maze exhibit.

At the Name That Tune exhibit, "Backfiring" is the answer decided upon by Corsato, Hitchhiker, jadesmar and Sofis.
The Tommy Oliver orchestra comes to an abrupt halt in playing, except for some mournful blats from the tuba. The museum official informs the visitors that the correct answer is "Continued operation after the ignition is turned off." Corsato, Hitchhiker, jadesmar and Sofis win no coins at this location and must find there fortunes elsewhere by returning in the general direction of the Starcade exhibit.

mikeamok offers no answer at the Pantomime Quiz exhibit and loses the opportunity for eight Struthio coins by not knowing the correct answer: "Shields and Yarnell." The map at this exhibit has two locations that will remain concealed. Only the route to the Starcade exhibit is readable by mikeamok.

Lano-Catru Balance: $32
Ocagru Balance: $47

Ocagru: there's a strategy point we may want to consider here.

We are only 3 coins away from being able to go to the next island (we need 50 and have 47). The other team is 13 away (they need 45 and have 32).

What I would suggest, then -- though this may seem to go against the spirit of the game to a degree -- is to make sure that we have one person at each of the 10 locations. We should answer one correctly (preferably whichever site we have a person alone at), and if at all possible, we should boldface incorrect answers at all the other locations before the other team has a chance to boldface correct answers. That will insure that the other team is second to leave the harbor, and they'll be forced to vote out a member, not us.

The only thing that makes me more annoyed than Qaqaq going against the spirit of the game like that is that I realized it first but was on the wrong side to suggest it. ;-)

Lano-Catru, this is a call to arms. If they're going to go to different sites and post wrong answers, we positively need to each go to a different site and get a correct guess up as quickly as possible in as many places as possible. Go to it!
