Anyone up for it? I figure we can use the same scoring system as they use on espn (I think it's 320 per round divided up among the games, except for the final which is worth 240 [edit]nope, it's 120 for each of the semifinals and 160 for the final[/edit]). We can add in 5 points for the play-in game. Anyway, yeah, post or email your brackets (I'll put mine up tomorrow).

Bracket

mith's bracket - I'll take Texas Southern in the 64/65 (they didn't bother with that on espn).

Well that's silly. Maybe you just have to be logged in, I know I've looked at other people's entries on there.

[edit]Ok, print screen and such, it's there as a gif now.[/edit]

When I try to log in as a new user, I get "service unavailable"
I'll give this a shot, but it don't want me to play.

And where are the Globetrotters?

Pah!

Deth's Picks

I followed a simple strategy since I had never heard of most of those teams. I picked the lower seeded one in all cases except when involving Cincinnati and Xavier.

I would pick TSU in the 64/65 game. I listen to KTSU all the time. Great station!

I think I figured out why the brackets are unviewable; the tourney hasn't started, so they don't want us stealing other people's ideas.

Not sure where you're having the problem, Aga... details?

Just in time for tip-off, here's my spreadsheet's bracket.

Shadowfax's Picks

(A couple years ago, I wrote a program on my calculator to make random picks, weighted solely on the seedings; a 1 seed had a 16/17 chance of beating a 16 seed, etc. It ended up with a really odd final, which happened to be my two "home" teams, Indiana and Tennessee. Neither of them got that far, of course, but it ended up being both myself and Omega. This year, I've used the colley ranking for the weighting, instead of just seeds (formula is IF(RAND()>(.5+R1-R2),T2,T1) where R is rating, T is team. Makes it a bit less random, but still some interesting results.)

(Oh, and it has UNC-Asheville for the play-in.)

(And Shadowfax is the name of my computer. Though, the windows partition is called Bill. I'm such a geek.)

Qball's picks

Well, here are mine for the throw in. Mine are not very special picks, except for St. Joe's as a Final Four.

Too late for the play-in game, but here are my choices for the remaining games (it's pretty simple):

The 1-7 seeds and the 9 seeds advance to the second round.
The 1-3 seeds and the 5 seeds are in the Sweet 16.
The 1 and 3 seeds are in the Elite 8.
All four 1 seeds make it to the Final 4.
Kentucky plays Oklahoma for the title...
...and Oklahoma pulls it out, shocking the country.

I think it would be more interesting if you multiplied the points for picking correctly by the seeding of the team you picked How differently would you pick that?

I guess it would help if I knew something about the teams.

Wow, those were two great shots. Cal beats NC St. in OT, 76-74.

Marquette has also won, and Gonzaga is about to.

That's ok, Aga, I don't either, it seems.

(The NCAA is the national collegate atheletic association; this is the championship among (bigger) college basketball teams. There's also the NIT, which is basically the best teams that didn't make it to the NCAA tourney. Picking winners is a big deal or something because there's always a lot of upsets, and there's so many teams. Plus the games are fun to watch. )

Two words: Poor Gonzaga

Damn, I was pulling for them, on the edge of my seat the entire two overtimes and last 5 minutes of regulation. I think their downfall was the poor shots on that last overtime possession. You only needed a 2, why go for a 3 =(
