Diplomacy 11/12 (Sign up closed)

8 just ended, 2 should be over soon (read: another year or two ), and YT has already had at least one draw vote (read: it may be mostly tactics from now, which doesn't take much time). I'm not saying we should start one *now*, but after 10 gets another year or so done, then we should be ready for another, yes? I'll mod unless CF really wants to (though, we may have enough players to each run a game). Currently leaning toward Aberration variant (9 players, slightly more detailed Europe map, all the powers are "might have been world powers if history had gone a bit differently"). Other options are Crystal Ball, Deluge/Sahara, RootZ, and Seismic. Post if you're interested.

Info and Map links as well, for Aberration. The *only* non-map difference in Aberration is that you can build in any of your SCs that isn't occupied already, as long as you still control at least one of your home SCs.

Being old and stodgy I only really enjoy playing standard Dip. If the sign-up looks like 9 then i suggest mith plays and I mod (He likes insane games); If it looks like 7 then I'd like to play if it's standard and mith modding would be great.

If most people would rather play standard, I'm fine with that too. It's really up to the players. We may even have enough for one of each, and I'd be happy to mod both.

Variants usually change in terms of the map. Abberation has only a slight playing different that mith explained. That's it, same game, different map.

Looks like we've got 6/9 for Aberration, 5/7 for Standard, one that'll go either way, and one that hasn't posted a preference.

What the mod expects:

1. Diplomacy on the forums can take anywhere from four months to a year+. You do not have to be online all the time to play (deadlines are about one week per move), but you are expected to be on enough to send moves and talk to other players (at least let them know you read what they had to say, it's just polite). After the first couple turns, NMRs (no moves received) will be given for orders that are late by more than 24 hours; to keep from being in danger of that, try to send provisional orders in as early as possible. Deadline extensions will be granted if you let me know in advance that you will be away or will need more time.

2. This is only a game. Do not take it too seriously. Do not take anything anyone says too seriously. Do not carry grudges from past games or from other things into this game. Do not make threats about things outside of the game (i.e. if you don't support me, I'll eat your children).

3. While this is only a game, I do expect everyone to play to win/survive. Feel free to make threats about throwing the game all you like, but if you do throw the game when you are in a position to survive, the mod will not be pleased. Play out of your best interest (i.e. if you can solo, do so) in the game.

4. Have fun. Role playing is encouraged, because it's funny. The more active everyone is, the more fun it is.

Thanks Maximus for reminding me i could advise players. If anyone wants me to check orders for strategical and/or tactical mistakes feel free to contact me. Even if two players contact me i will have dismissed the first orders and started fresh before looking at the second players'.
