I've noticed Fantasy Football here at GL, except it's the football we at Blighty call Rugby (except we don't wear armour and helmets ), so I thought we could try a normal Fantasy Football League(as in S-S-S-Soccer, there I said it). As shown by Aga in the American version you don't have to know anything about it to take part, although it might help if you want to win . We are half way through the Season over here (English Premiership), but that doesn't matter, we will start from scratch and it will give me a basis of what to expect if we want to do a full season come the Summer.
Rules are -
Pick eleven players from here which must consist of :
one goalkeeper
two fullbacks
two centrebacks
four midfielders
two strikers
which combined must not cost more than £45 million.Points are awarded as thus :
+5 : every goal
+3 : every key contribution
+2 : Full 90 minutes
+1 : appearance
+4 : Clean Sheet (Keepers and Defenders (90 mins))
+2 : Clean Sheet (Keepers and Defenders (Part))
-5 : Sending Off
-2 : Booking
-2 : Own Goal
-2 : Missed Penalty
-1 : Every goal conceded (Keepers and Defenders)
If one of your players misses a match due to injury, booking etc, then tough, but you can make up to five 'swaps' till the end of the Season if you like ( poor performance, long term injury, etc.)
So, have you the flair of Wenger, the psychology of Ferguson and the heart of Robson, or the flair of 'Long Ball' Wilkinson, the psychology of 'I'd love it' Keegan and the Heart of Houllier. If you'd like to find out say ...in.
(Any queries, clarifications or changes you would like, say now or forever hold your peace)
BTW - send team selections to me - do not post them here.
PS - The points system used in the above link is different than the one I'm using, but it may give Football newbies an indication as to who is doing what.

| Well, that was going to depend on the sign-up rate, but next Friday would be good, as Premiership games are delayed until the Saturday (11th) because of the Cup this weekend....C'mon City... |

No you don't have to pay(Just the £45,000,000 initial fee for the players )
You can create your own team of eleven players but they don't have to be from the same club (if that's what you mean).
Each week I'll look at how each individual player has faired and add their points to the other ten members of your team. Whichever manager (that's you) has the most points at the end of the season (mid May, I think) wins. Bish bosh job's a good'un.

I know how to play soccer, but the some of the columns on your link I don't understand.
IE "cs", "mth" etc.
The obvious ones, Games Played, Goals, Assists, and Goals Against.
Could you just give me a quick label for the others, thx. |

CS must be clean sheets
MTHS could be points gained for the month( most fantasy football leagues have manager of the month)
*Remember, the link just takes you to the goalkeepers, click on the positions at the top of the linked page to go to fullbacks, centrebacks, midfielders and strikers* |

tks Duphrates, I've got as far as that. I just have to trim another 3.7 million pounds from my payroll to have a team.
Very, very tough. |

Hmmm ... 11 players and a 45M pound payroll. The minimum salary seems to be 3.2M per player, which doesn't leave a lot of room for premeir players. I have got my payroll down to 47.7M pounds, and don't want to part with my two strikers. Looks like I won't have a choice.

€/100
1st €/100: Money should be 50 million pounds... I was exactly at 45 with only one and a half good player...
2nd €/100: How about some points based on the final standings? I think that at least the champions should be given a bonus...

People seem to want £50,000,000.When I worked out how much my ideal(ish) team were worth it came to 51.2 so I thought 50 was little high.I think everyone would have virtually the same team if the money was high. But if you would like to vote for 50 then say so now.

For example, if I have Alan Shearer and Nikos Dabizas in my squad and Newcastle finish top of the league, then I'll get some points (10?) for each of them. If Chelsea finish second then I'll get some points (5?) for G.Zola. That may work for the top 4 teams...
Something along these lines...

Sticking with £45,000,000
Taflinel - no
People have got till Friday to join up. Those who have already sent may still change their team until then without losing their 5 'swaps', so a word of advice, 3 of you have Ugo Ehiogu, who last week suffered an injury which will put him out for at least two months. |

Sorry - it should say 'Key Contribution'
What constitutes a 'Key Contribution'?
KCs are only awarded to players whose involvement is instrumental in a goal being scored. For example, if your player takes a corner which is headed in with no intervention from an opposing player, he will get a KC. However, if he merely plays a short ball to a player who then scores from long-range or beats a few players to score (or both) your player will not earn a KC.
Up to two players can earn a KC on any given goal. For example, if Player A plays the ball inside a defender and Player B runs on and crosses the ball for Player C to score, a KC would be awarded to both players.
In all cases, any significant intervention by opposing players (e.g. rebounds or clearing the ball) will negate any KCs before that intervention. The only exception is goalkeepers: when a player's shot is parried by the keeper to the scorer a KC will be awarded to that player. Hitting the woodwork does not cancel out any previous KCs, neither does any touch from an opposing player which so slight as to leave the course of the ball unaffected.
KCs can be given for players fouled when the resulting penalty is scored by another player but they must be fouled in possession to get the KC. This does not apply to free-kicks where no KC is given for the player 'earning' the free-kick. You cannot 'assist yourself', i.e. get fouled, score the penalty and get points for both the goal and the KC.
There are no KCs for own goals - they are only awarded for assisting team-mates in scoring.
Does that answer your question?

Just for clarification, when swapping (up to 5 times), does the L45 limit still hold?
I'd like to be in. Could you accept me even if i don't have a team ready before the first round/match? |

Yes the £45,000,000 still holds for the 'swaps'.
You have until Friday 12.00 (Midday GL) to get teams in. You can join in later, but everyone else will have the advantage of this weekends matches. |
