RAF VIII - What the Heck Just Happened?

Right. This one'll be a bit more surreal than previous ones.

If you don't know the rules of "Ready, Aim, Fire!", here's a crash course: You can shoot yourself, someone else, or the sky. All outcomes are pretty much as you would expect, with one major exception: if you shoot at someone who has targeted himself or herself, YOU die.

Okay, that should be enough people.

The story so far...

For as long as they could remember, a group of nine friends had got together every weekend to play video games. This weekend, however, was to be a bit different...

"Hey, guys! Look what I just bought!"

"Whoa! An old NES! I didn't think they made that system anymore!"

"They don't. This funny-looking guy with a yellow bowler hat and a blue shirt came up and offered to sell it to me. At least, I assume that's what he was trying to say; he didn't really make much sense. Then he gave me this thing and ran off yelling something about someone shanking his Jenga-ship."

"Huh?"

"Yeah, I know. Weird. But look! He even threw in this game!"

"Really? Which game is it?"

"I don't know; it's not labeled. Here, I'll put it in and try it out."

Yep. A full two hours ahead of the deadline, I may add.

Veg? Vinny? kev... er,kirby? Still waiting. About forty-five minutes left.

Hmmm... Okay, I'll extend the deadline to 10:00 am tomorrow morning. If the remaining three choices still haven't arrived by then, then they're out of the game, and anyone who aimed at them will be considered to have shot the air.

Duph Nukem...I like it.

[Mackay]

Mackay Croft.... *shudder*

wait wait, getting the choice in! Sowwy!

Super Veggio hasn't sent his choice, but I'll leave him in as it doesn't really affect anything.

Super Veggio is the first to materialize inside the game. Almost instantly, Vinny the Hedgehog crashes into him and speeds off into the distance chuckling. Wounded and desperately in need of a mushroom, Veg is quite relieved to find a "?" block nearby. He headbutts it... and is immediately crushed by a giant stone "L." Chuck Pajitnov walks by, whistling the Tetris theme.

As Vinny rolls along, the landscape around him becomes a little greener, and the background music gets much more irritating. He begins to wonder which video game he has wandered into this time. He then begins to wonder where that increasingly large shadow surrounding him is coming from, and whether it is in any way connected with the descending tone he is hearing. All three questions are answered rather abruptly when a giant stone trapezoid with eyes and a mouth lands on top of Vinny, flattening him. The stone then morphs back into the more recognizable shape of kirbyatilusa.

kirbyatilusa shoots Vinny the Hedgehog.

kirby's victory is short-lived, however, as Mega Mad X beams down in front of him. "Hey, stealing powers from bad guys was my idea!" she exclaims. She begins to glow, first blue, then white, and finally pink, and a massive swirling blast of energy flies out of her X-Buster. kirby is sent flying off into the sunset. Mega Mad X blows on her X-Buster to cool it off (not necessary, really, but it's the traditional thing to do), then hops onto her Ice Sled (stolen from Chill Penguin) and slides off.

Mega Mad X shoots kirbyatilusa.

Mega Mad X's Ice Sled carries her to what would appear to be a massive fortified compound. Intrigued, she enters. After running down a few corridors, she encounters Duph Nukem, and is immediately blown to scrap.
Mackay Croft jogs by and fires a few bullets at Mega Mad X's remains just for the heck of it, then jogs off.

Duph Nukem and Mackay Croft shoot Mega Mad X.

Duph Nukem lets out a fierce grunt, bulges his neck muscles a bit, and runs out of the compound, shooting anything that moves and a few things that don't. At the entrance, he pauses to consider his options. As thinking is not exactly his specialty, this requires his full attention, which prevents him from noticing when Linkton places a bomb at Duph's feet and runs off.

Linkton shoots Duph Nukem.

Mackay pauses for a second to get her bearings, and realizes that she's somehow managed to jog from Duph's compound to Planet Zebes. Samus Faeran drops down from a ledge overhead, blasts Mackay, and runs off muttering something about giving female video game charaters a bad name.

Samus Faeran shoots Mackay Croft.

Linkton, euphoric over his victory over Duph Nukem, celebrates by embarking on a long and overly complicated quest for the Spoon of Justice. He is never heard from again.

Linkton is out.

Samus Faeran decides to unwind by going for a swim. This proves to be a rare instance of bad judgement on her part, as the seas of Planet Zebes are notorious for their acidity. The details of what ensue are best left undocumented; however, she manages to escape with her life, if not her dignity.

Samus Faeran shoots air.

Meanwhile, Chuck Pajitnov realizes, to his horror, that he was indirectly responsible for all of those god-awful Tetris clones. He performs a bizarre rite of hara-kiri involving a T-block, a rocket ship, and an ostrich.

Chuck Pajitnov shoots self.

Congratulations (and apologies) to Samus Faeran!
