mith's quick and dirty Dip rules summary:

GL mith: alright
GL mith: there are 4 types of moves
GLdethwing: chromatic looks better
GL mith: 1. HOLD
GL mith: the unit tries to stay where it is
GL mith: if i want my army in Bulgaria to hold, I say A Bul HOLD
GL mith: 2. Move
AntraxJ3: Chromatic is stupid
GL mith: the unit tries to move to an adjacent territory
AntraxJ3: completely symmetric
GL cuban smoker: (synonomous with attack)
GLdethwing: There's no pleasing you Ant.
GL mith: right
AntraxJ3: true
GLdethwing: I like the chrmatic
GL mith: A Bul-Rum, for example
GLdethwing: i like the symetry
AntraxJ3: I always bitch
AntraxJ3: ask Hy
GL mith: 3. Support
GL mith: A unit can support another unit, in moving or holding
GL mith: if the other unit is holding, the supporting unit has to be adjacent and able to move there
GL cuban smoker: Captain Blicero can't get AIM. It's not letting him. He says forget it
GL mith: so, for example, F BLA S A Bul HOLD
AntraxJ3: he can use AIM express Felicitous
GL cuban smoker: this is true
AntraxJ3: if he has Java it'll work
GL cuban smoker: where is that
AntraxJ3: www.aim.com
GL mith: a fleet in Bul could not support a unit in Ser, because a fleet can not move to Ser
AntraxJ3: can too, if you're me
GL mith: Ser is landlocked
dI8P: with you so far
GL mith: in order for a unit to support a unit that is moving, it has to be adjacent to the space the unit is moving *to* (but not necessarily from)
GL mith: so, F Sev S A Bul-Rum would be valid
AntraxJ3: atomic diplomacy!
AntraxJ3: that'd be brilliant
GL mith: i'll explain what good supporting is in a minute
GL mith: 4. Convoy
GL cuban smoker: Oh... new guys... go here : http://realpolitik.sourceforge.net/downloads.html\
AntraxJ3: and when I say "brilliant" I mean "painfully stupid"
GL mith: a fleet (or chain of fleets) can convoy an army across water
GL cuban smoker: interactive map
GL mith: the fleet must be adjacent to the start and end points, or the chain must be (and the chain must be connected, of course)
AntraxJ3: (to see how to convoy, see Dip YT =P)
GL mith: and the fleet can not be on a coastal space, it must be in open sea
GL mith: heh
GL mith: so, for example: A Bul-Sev, F BLA C A Bul-Sev
GL mith: now, how stuff is resolved:
GL mith: if a unit moves somewhere, and nothing else does, it succeeds
GL mith: if two or more units try to move to the same place, then:
GL mith: if neither are supported, they "bounce" (neither moves there)
GL mith: if both has the same amount of support, they bounce
GL mith: if one has more than the other, it succeeds
GL mith: if a unit tries to move to a place already occupied by a unit:
GL mith: if the unit was holding, then the attacking unit needs more support than the holding unit
GL mith: if the unit was moving and failed, the attacking unit only needs one or more supports (in other words, you can't support a unit to hold if that unit is actually moving)
GL mith: if a unit is giving support, the support can be cut in one of two ways:
GL mith: if it is attacked by a unit, the support is cut, unless the support is supporting an attack on the unit trying to cut support
GLdethwing: i somehow doubt that today is the day to play aim-dip
GLdethwing: we should try again next weekend
GL mith: so, for example, Russia: F Rum-BLA, Turkey: A Bul-Rum, F BLA S A Bul-Rum, Turkey would take Rum
GLdethwing: im going to get dressed, brb
GL mith: the second way is if the unit trying to give support is dislodged, even by the unit being attacked
GL cuban smoker: that's inappropriate...
GL mith: so, for example, Russia: F Rum-BLA, F Sev S F Rum-BLA, A Ukr-Rum, Turkey: A Bul-Rum, F BLA S A Bul-Rum
GL mith: Rum-BLA succeeds, because it is supported
GL mith: since BLA is dislodged, it no longer gives support
GL mith: and Bul and Ukr bounce
sketchwick1973: I've having a hard time with the AM map being all I have to look at
GL cuban smoker: go to http://realpolitik.sourceforge.net/downloads.html
GL mith: http://crystyb.freeyellow.com/RoDip/Dip.jpg
GL cuban smoker: and get the program
GL mith: sketch, that's the standard map
GL mith: the southeast is where all my examples are coming from
GL mith: If a unit is dislodged (the space it is occupying is successfully attacked), then i can retreat to an adjacent space, as long as no unit tried to move to that space, and it is not the space the attacking unit came from
GL mith: or, it can disband
AntraxJ3: retreat to off-board Felicitous
GL mith: the phases go as follows:
GL mith: spring: movement
GL mith: summer: retreats/disbands
GL mith: fall: movement
GL mith: autumn: retreats/disbands
GL mith: winter: builds/disbands

I will be in the GL Diplomacy Chat Room around 1:30 GL time, if you guys have time to finish the game from yesterday, or start a new one. Otherwise, we'll probably shoot for next Saturday at noon. If you could post definite /in or /out for next week and be prompt, we'll hopefully be able to start on time instead of at 2:30.

I have unraveled the mystery behind my university's free undergrad webspace and have created a skeleton website! Yay! Now I can upload .dpy files and pictures and other fun things.
