Good try Quail, but it's not the old film with.. err... was it Alec Guinness or Richard Attenborough, I can't remember, but we'll just let it go now...
Answer was "Steve 'Can I help you at all, this is a local shop for local people, there's nothing for you here' Pemberton"

Zebulon Pike, after whom Pike's Peak is named.
General: Are you generally known for one accomplishment/act/feat vs. a reputation or career?
Examples of one accomplishment: Stopping the fourth jet on 9/11, or not giving your bus seat to the white gentleman, or losing 150 lbs. on the Subway diet.
Stumper: Were you an accomplished baseball player in the Negro Leagues, who is said to have been so fast, you could turn off the switch on the wall and jump into bed before the lights went out? |

Satchel Paige was the Negro League player...
Let's see... Dead, American female. Not alive in 1960. Death not noteworthy, but led to inclusion in this game. Perhaps died recently at age less than 43?
Not famous for one thing, but rather for career, or something like White House intern or labor organizer.
Not involved in sports, entertainment and/or arts, science and/or politics, academic or literary contributions. Not globally publicized. Did not spend time in prison for what she was famous for... The italics make me think perhaps she spent time in jail, or got probation for her transgression.
I am stumped, but will continue to puzzle over it all weekend, I'm sure.
In the meantime, a new stumper: Were you a poplular French chanteuse during the 40's and 50's? |
