Realm of Darkness - Making a comeback and partially open to

Once again, I'm sorry you all had to wait but my computer was sulking yesterday... anyway, on with the game.

A cool summer breeze is blowing, and the birds are singing up in the trees. Today would be a wonderful day... if not for the curse haunting your town. The almighty army of evil spirits known as The Myths have stolen the one artefact that your town posesses. It is a staff of bronze, with five white pearls embedded in the orb at the top. This artefact is known as the Aurial Staff, and until it is rescued, your town is doomed to live in darkness for all eternity.
Your task as a group is to retrieve the staff from The Myths' fortress which lies over the other side of the picturesque mountains. You have just set off, after a preparatory rest and relaxation period... but all is not well.
The Myths know you are approaching them... they have sent their armies to destroy your hopes and dreams... you can see two large ogres approaching you in the dusk of the forest...

You must nominate TWO people to fight the ogres. You have until 12am (5pm GMT) to nominate. You can't nominate yourself, but you can ask others to vote for you.

Now, Ogres... going by general lore, I assume are still flesh, not rock like some trolls. They are thick skinned though. And very resilient. They aren't incredibly slow, although probably not as fast as any of the players here. I would suggest Elves as the proper defense, since they have long range weapons. Ogres are dangerous in close quarters. This being said, i nominate CrystyB as one of the defenders. I have no objections to being the other. Elves and Ogres are natural enemies with a large rivalry.

As a question to Kd: How do we go about fighting these trolls? Do we get to use any and all of our abilities combined, or only certain ones?

Okay, I'll aim to get player lists up soon.

You will have all abilities enabled to fight with, but sometimes during battle you can lose them or lose health, so watch out for that.

We have CrystyB and Hitman as choices, by everyone but CB, so all that's left is to have them accept, which Hitman has already done.

As far as CB, he should realize that even if he thinks that none of us is able to beat the ogres, there is no reason not to choose someone, since it doesn't apparently matter anyway Just hurry up and accept dude.

Maybe the characters can write their own stories.

I can take one orge and C.B. can take the other and the stories would be different.

And ok i accept and step forward to the battle. (There are no other nominations for me to vote for.)

My general strategy for beating any party of enemies is to concentrate on one at a time, preferably the weakest/most aggressive one, no matter what the others do.

But this time i want to see how good Hitman is, so i let him attack one ogre, i'll shoot at the other ; and after he finishes his he would give me a hand with my target. And in the process i find out how good i am too .

So... how will the battle be fought, Kd?

Sorry Sorry Sorry Sorry Sorry school probs.... but anyway....

A deathly silence falls across the glade as the ogres approach..... CrystyB and Hitman have stepped forward to defend the group...

The first ogre swings his club forwards, and knocks Hitman to the ground. CrystyB, in defence, fires an arrow at it's neck, and as the ogre burns and writhes in agony, he uses his telekinetic ability to send the ogre flying into a sturdy oak tree.

Hitman, having recovered, sets about taking care of the second monster, by leaping into the air brandishind the ninja stars, poised to attack... the ogre swings at Hitman, and knocks Hitman off balance, but the ogre is soon subdued by the poison emitted from the stars.

With the two ogres out for the count, CrystyB searches their pockets, and finds rope, a vial of health fluid, two torches and a dagger, which he takes.

Health Stats:
Hitman: 50%
CrystyB: 75%
All others: 100%

There will be a puzzle for the next nomination (which WILL be tomorrow, I promise). You don't need to start voting yet, so for now you can be asleep or talk about today's events.

Your group has headed to the ancient city of Lucani, where you hope to seek shelter before facing the maze of paths that await you in the land surrounding the fortress of The Myths. The empress of Lucani, Keara, is a wise woman who will offer you guidance once you reach her, but her keen mind comes at a price to you.
Approaching the gates of Lucani, you see three guards. They look strong and well armed - it would not be a wise choice to fight them. Talking to them, they seem to speak only in verse and riddle... maybe they are trying to reveal the word that will guarantee your access to the city.

The first guard speaks:

'Card, Court, Fast, Fight, Home, Stationery, White, The, Tree'.

The second guard then follows:

'2 score and a dozen in all, but 2 squared of me,
1 to love, 1 to wed, 1 to harm, 1 to bury,
And I must now be named in my solitary.'

Finally, the third guard chooses to talk:

'DCNI'

You realise that Keara is smarter than she appears....

You may ALL try to solve the puzzle. There is ONE WORD that will serve as the final answer to this riddle, and it must be worked out or you will be denied access to Lucani. Anyone may give the final answer. Good luck.

The second guard is obviously talking about your standard deck of english playing cards. Two score and a dozen is 52 (No jokers) and 2 squared is four, i.e. the number of suits. One to love is hearts, one to wed is diamonds, one to kill is clubs, one to bury is spades.

the pronoun "me" would be for "suits." so this might be a clue to the answer, or a part of it.

The Full meaning of "And I must now be named in my Solitary" escapes me, but since Solitaire is a game played by one's self, It may have something to do with Aces, which are played "up" first. Also, Diamonds, when set as a single stone, are called Diamond "Solitaire", so maybe Diamonds is the suit we are looking for. Ace of Diamonds Maybe?

I'm not sure what the first or third Guards are saying yet, but maybe others of you can shed light on this

The first guard gives 9 words. It might be a 3x3. Or it might not. I'll work on it.

DCNI... Stands for something most likely, but it's not the suits again, so that's out. It wouldn't be the Spanish Variation of a deck either, since that's what one would normally see as the basis for Tarot decks, i.e. Swords, Cups, etc...

"2 squared of me" ME could mean he that is calling himself a Joker. Thus 2 squared = the number of jokers in a deck of cards.


This theory is wrong as there are only 2 jokers per deck, not 4.
You R probably correct, ME refers to the suits.

The first is most likely a 3x3, but i never try to solve those. I don't have the required vocabulary, or the patience. Besides, i always hated wordplay.
As for the third, were it been DCLI, it would've meant 651 in latin, but N is not used in that system of numbering...

actually, in most American decks of poker-size playing cards, Hoyle and Bicycle brands both, only two Jokers are included. I'm not sure about elsewhere or other brands. In fact, i've never seen a three-joker deck. Ever. I've owned and seen a lot of decks.

with 4 suits, there are 4 versions of each number, so "2 squared(4) of me" would refer to the 4 numbers

It looks like you're having trouble with this:

Okay, DCNI is a kind of cryptogram, but it's a little complex.... start with the number of letters., it's important, as are the individual letters in relation to where they are in the word.

Don't go into specific cards... all I'm looking for is a singular form of what I describe.

Yeah, ask away... you're going to need to....

Bird isn't the answer... I have no idea how you got that... The 3x3 consists of finding 3 words that can come before or after one word that links them, and then those 3 words you get all link to a final one. Show me how you got Bird, and I'll try to see where you've gone wrong.

here's what i had, tentatively: (I am assuming that the words are not necessarily in order. If they are, then This is going to be a great deal more difficult)

1)Food: Food-Court, Fast-Food, Food-Fight

2)Calling: Calling Card, Calling Home, The Calling

3)Christmas: Christmas Stationery, Christmas Tree, White Christmas

Bird: Bird Food, Calling Bird, Christmas Bird

It's all i've been able to come up with so far. I think Food fits pretty well, so i suppose that, at least, is right, but the rest...
