Just for fun this game, in addition to offering you the option of submitting a preference list for country, I'll also let you send a preference for your national colors. Anything I can do in RP is fair game, give me a top 7; keep in mind that if you pick an awful color, everyone might attack you.

(Can be dependent on the country you get if you like, if you guys think this is a stupid idea, then we don't have to do it.)

I assume FE is in, until he says otherwise. I'll bug Ant when he gets back. That leaves two spots open.

(Unless we do AM, not sure if you guys like it or not.)

Perhaps we could try the Woolworth variant if we only have 5. It looks like fun.

(Woolworth is 5 players, 10 powers, each player controls one power publicly, and one privately)

Ok, Ant is playing, I think. I'll email FE to make sure he wants to play.

Options for 5:

Chromatic (5 Italys in a circle)
Pros: Simple, implemented in RP
Cons: Ew, Italy. And too symmetric and dull, probably.

Five-Man Diplomacy (link)
Pros: Would be easy to do in RP, "Official"
Cons: Not sure how balanced it is; not an actual Con, I just haven't actually looked at the map they suggest.

Ancient Mediterranean
Pros: I persoanally love it, we've played it before, already implemented in RP (though I would probably redo the map so it's like the other ones.
Cons: Antrax hates it. Also, it's been done before, so you guys might rather try something original. Like...

Woolworth (10 countries, each player controls one publicly and one privately)
Pros: New and exciting, plus with more countries and SC, the game goes longer (of course, AM lasted long enough, so that may not be a plus )
Cons: Not implemented in RP (there *is* a map that looks like it was done in RP though, so I might be able to work from there), may be more complicated than you guys would like.

Woolworth, Modern Varient (same as Woolworth, but played on the Modern map in RP)
Pros: Already in RP, same as Woolworth
Cons: The map isn't quite as nice looking, IMO, though I do prefer it in one area (the Mediterranean on the Woolworth map is hardly expanded at all, yet has two more players). Also, any cons listed above.

Thoughts, preferences, other suggestions?

Not a great fan of a variant, but will play more or less anything with this group as it should be a good fight.

vote: Woolworth modern
I've seen the woolworth map, and it looks sucky. Well, actually there's only one thing I don't like about (Iceland), but modern is cooler and it's already implemented in RP.

I was looking through to see who else might want to play, and I came up with some interesting stats:

Of the 13 completed games, 17 players have survived a game (out of 35 total). Of those, only two (Lucky Wizard and Sparticus) did so in their only game.

19 players have played more than one game. All 4 who were not among the survivors above only played in 2 games. Of the 15 remaining, only two have a perfect survival record (crazycellist (2) and ChienFou (3)).

Inactives among those 15:

crazycellist - last posted 8-30-2003
dethwing - doesn't want to play anymore
Ferris - has posted recently, but hasn't show interest in playing, hasn't played since AM
Mikko - has posted in the last month, but doesn't post a lot, hasn't played since Dip 9
CrystyB - last posted 9-22-2003
mole - hasn't played since Dip 8, when he dropped out. not sure of his interest

That leaves 9. I'm modding. 4 are signed up. MadMax will play if we do standard (question about that, coming up). The other 3 are Fried Egg (Sparhawk and I have both emailed him with no success), Macros (not sure if he's interested, will ask), and firemeboy (he's playing in 14, not sure if he wants to play more than one).

Maxine (and others): If we get to 7 and play standard (which means two of the three above playing), would you still play if we used the slight variant of Variable Length Tournament Diplomacy? Something I want to try, encourages solos.

Emailed fmb and Macros. Am still leaning toward sticking with 5 (variants are fun, just for something different), but if both want to play, then we'll see.

Hmmm...Not sure if I have time for a game...don't really fancy any of the five player variants anyway.

The one dip variant I've always fancied playing is Colonial...although that requires seven players...

I *might* be tempted to play (and help make up the numbers) if I can be given reasonable assurance that it won't get abandoned due to inactivity, like a lot of diplomacy games on non-diplomacy sites.

Yes, that is a good sign. The bad sign though, is that this thread was started on May 14th.

So who do we have atm? And are they still about, and reading this? And how many more do we need?

We have CF, Ant, Spar, Maximus. Plus shady makes 5. Plus FE and MadMax makes 7, if everyone is cool with standard. I personally would rather see a variant, but that's probably just me. Revenge most foul!
