The good citizens of Verona, a peaceful town in southern Puzzleania, have until now been able to co-exist with the town's two influential mafia families without coming to too much harm.

This morning, a note was found in the town square, reading "We do not wish this state of affairs to continue any longer. It ends now. Il vostro buono amico, Don C." No one was able to work out exactly what it meant, but they went to sleep knowing that the mystery would be revealed in the morning. And that it wouldn't be good.

Rules:
The task of the citizens of Verona is to defeat the two feuding mafia families and the serial killer. The mafia must defeat the opposing family as well as the townsfolk and serial killer, and the serial killer must act according to his modus operandi to eliminate everyone.

Standard rules apply. If you haven't played mafia on the GL before, you can read them below.

Each "night", everyone who is able to target someone with their ability must send me an email telling me what their choice is. In the "morning" I will post some of the results of the previous night and email the rest to the appropriate parties.

During the "day", the players that are still alive will vote for someone to lynch. In the morning I will tell you the number of votes required before someone is lynched. If there is little activity for a few days I will set a deadline with 24 hours warning. Once that deadline passes the player with the most votes at that time will be lynched.

Please do not discuss the game with other players over AIM, e-mail etc., unless you are part of a mafia family or a similar group and it is nighttime. Also, you are not allowed to post e-mails from me or others in this thread, or to reveal any information your character has (or even hint at it) after you have been eliminated from the game.

Revealing your role or others' is not recommended unless in emergencies, since it will probably result in you being the next mafia target.

If you have any questions about your role, please e-mail me. Questions about the rules above are okay to post in the thread, though.

The members of a small resistance group meet in the shadowy streets to discuss the threats made by the mafia. Now that they had openly declared their intentions, something needed to be done. ralphmerridew opens the meeting and addresses their first problem:

"Who can we trust? We all know that the members of our conspiracy are innocent, but what about-"

The sound of a single gunshot is heard from one side of the street, and ralphmerridew clutches his chest and collapses. "They've found us! Run!"

As they split up and do so, though, groza is killed by shots from the other side of the street. The restistance group, formed by the masons of the lodge of the Badger, has been dealt a terrible blow.

jesternl, meanwhile, has other things on his mind. A suspicious piece of fruit had been delivered to his forensics lab earlier in the night, and he suspected it could give him the fingerprints of some of the mafia. He turns his back for only a moment, and when he looks at the orange again, it has been neatly cut into a number of small pieces.

Expecting the worst, he moves to get something he can defend himself with, but the serial killer is too quick for him. His body is found in the morning, with the knife through his chest pinning him to the wall.
