I'm voting for myself to speed the lynching process. I'm going to get lynched, and if I vote for myself I don't need a majority to get lynched in this game. Since it's going to happen, let's get to the last night of the game as quickly as possible and end it already so we can discuss it.

| The town comes together to lynch their victim. After the fun lynching party, the town goes to quercitron's house to discover a pool of black magic, and a list of the dead towns people. As confirmed by DPW, quercitron was a Phyrexian. 1 more Phyrexian dead as Night falls over the town. Night people send me your choices by:7-31-02 at 5:00pm. |

One question - don't they have lower case letters in Italy, Don? Or are ridiculous parodies of 'real' mafia like yourself not smart enough to find the caps lock key?

radwulf, you "told" people not to play by a strategy that had just won the game effortlessly. It is sometimes better to remain silent.

Actually, I'm not particularly bitter about anything except the lynching of Sparhawk when he didn't have the majority. You guys found a way to win and used it effectively.

The strategy is/was sound. The only possible hitch was the existance of a godfather... and even if there was a godfather it's still a very good plan. Sure it made for a boring game, which caused the interest to drop, but it still worked out for the town.

For most of the game, I was sure the Phyrexians were going to win. We were doing great and not getting lynched. I think it was the best we could have reasonably done, but it was not nearly enough.
Fezzik, could you post the roles of the remaining players? |

Crackerjack/sweetwater was Radiant

The Phyrexians had virtually no chance this game. I think that everyone knowing the roles, and the named doctors really hurt us a lot. When enough people lost interest, I thought we might do ok, then we lost Sparhawk with too few votes, then I knew we were in trouble because it seemed the mod was against us too. If we had known there would be a new rule about voting for yourself kills you at the deadline we might have not lost him.
We had two attemts at jesternl blocked and on the last night I tried a last licks at DPW, I thought that the angels might have tried to protect others. And apparently the Serra angel that was supposed to be protecting DPW didn't protect him, so Radiant must have...

I wasn't against you jeep. I am a mod therefor I am neutral. No, there wasn't some hiden rule that said if you voted for yourself you die. In interest of keeping the game going I comensed the lynching of Sparhawk. There was no sign that if everyone had been posting and participating the same result would not have happened. The fact that he seemed to want to die (since he voted for himself) just helped the decision. I now see the flaws in having a "must have certain number of votes" lynching style. For my next game, X-Men mafia I will adjust the rules to be more comfortable. Thanks DPW for posting the roles. If anybody has any questions about them, just ask.

I didn't really have a problem with the mod lynching me. My biggest complaint was with the players. How long does it take to check once a day, and then either say 'No Lynch' or the name of the person DPW found? This game should have gone *very* quickly. Why didn't everyone do their part?
As a general question: In any game with a known number of Doctors and one or more Cops, why wouldn't this same strategy work? It is more efficient to have names for the doctoros so that they don't duplicate on the cop, but it should still work, shouldn't it?

Why was I killed the first night? Was it random, or do you think I'm a threat to mafia in general (thinks it's the first, hopes for the last ).
Oh, and when I replaced UVGF, I started reading back, say DPW's posts, and protected him the next nights. I believe I've made a few posts to vote, and that's anything I have done.
But still, w00t for winning and stuff, go TowN !!!! |

First of all, 9 out of 15 townies were killed by the mafia, but the two doctors were among the lucky 1/3 that escaped unharmed, so luck played a big part in this game. Had one of the docs been killed say in the 5th round or so, things would have been a lot tougher for the town with this strategy. And if there had been a godfather, I think the strategy would have totally failed.
Lastly, Antrax, I'd appreciate it if you would refrain from using insults against me outside of a game.

Even with a GF this town has super-cops (the kind that give exact roles) So the phyrexians would have to kill all the docs to keep the town from a majority over the GF.
My plan kicked ass. I first thought of this in newbie mafia 5, since the town started with 3 docs and 2 cops. Only I was mafia so I didn't mention to the town that I thought it was a good idea. The fact that the docs had names made the strategy overwhelming.
My favorite part of the game was jeep telling me I was killed so he could start being less logical.
I pity the phyrexians, and I totally agree that this game should have taken NO time and shame shame on all the non-participating townies.
Oh, Antrax: Have you read any Ayn Rand? I so wished I could have been alive the day after I died to argue that regardless of DPW trying to coerce the town to do what he wanted....you should still vote no lynch. It's the right thing to do. You do the right thing and hope everyone else does too.

Even if he got elf for the GF, then you have two docs and a cop... lynch all the townies until the game is over.
There was a lot of luck in us never finding an angel, but even so, I think this game was heavily in the favor of the town. DPW managed to come out as Karn with a Phyrexian before our guy could come out.
I even thought about trying to convince us to get two of us to come out as Karn, then try to kill the real Karn, hoping that the angels would protect the two mafia karns. Then we sac two players, but the town loses all investigative powers. At least then we had a chance.

I think you might be oversimplifying, Jeep. I'm not sure how many more nights it would have taken DPW to identify all elfs, so I don't know if I can argue that this would have given the mafia enough time to shoot one of the doctors.
However, I am almost certain that the victory obtained by following the no-lynch plan, was not guaranteed. If one of the doctors had been killed early or perhaps even mid-game, the town would have been forced to abandon the plan and would have had a difficult time securing victory.
It's hard to debate this objectively because there are a lot of factors to be considered, but I won't put up with some jerk calling me a moron because my opinion on this is different than his. |

Who thinks you're a moron?
I don't, but I do disagree. It CAN be looked at objectively since the % chance the mafia has of killing a doctor can be calculated. Keep in mind the mafia had to kill BOTH docs before DPW would have to reveal his list of innocents.

I can be looked at objectively... but luck has a lot to do with it. Mafia never found a doc. What would have happened if the docs were the first ones killed? Bad Luck, Bad Luck, Bad Luck. Now where have I heard that before?

It could have happened, but the odds were in the towns favor. Of 17 players there were 5 Phryrexians. One found by DPW... so 16 people, 4 phyrexians.
P[killing doc night 3]= P[phyrexians tagetting Radiant] + P[phyrexians targetting Serra]P[Serra not protecting Radiant] - P[phyrexians targetting Serra]*P[Radiant targetting Serra] = 1/11 + (1/11)(13/14) - (1/11)(1/14) = 16.9%
P[no kill night] = (1/11)(1/14) = 0.6%
P[DPW finding second phyrexian night 3] = 4/15 = 26.6%
P[DPW finding second innocent night 3] = 73.2%
I was going to show how to figure out P[doc killed night 3 & 4], but instead I'll just give the number- 1%. That's pretty good for town. I'm certain that it is better odds than the randomly lynching someone each day.
Werebear, it's not luck, it's probabilities. If the probability of town winning is better with Sketchwick's plan than with "random" lynching then that is the correct play. "Luck" doesn't matter when determining the best play.

Hm. I was looking at it as probabilities is how you create the game, but luck is what skews the probabilities. You're right, the balance was tipped in the town's favor. My point was that luck is a major factor of play, the mafia could still have won by a landslide, with proper choices. I just didn't express myself adequately.
