Everyone should receive an e-mail similar to this (only with the specific role part filled in) within the next hour (or day).
Welcome to Mafia 50: The Salem Witch Trials. The rest of this e-mail assumes that you are still playing; if that is not the case, please e-mail me as soon as possible so that I can replace you. Please read all of the following (I know it's long, but it can't be helped).
This Mafia game uses Aliases, which many of you may not have used. I will include a name that you are to post under, and a password for that name. Do not tell anyone else (in the game, or otherwise) what your Alias is. Part of the fun of the game is that you will not be sure whether anyone is acting "normal". The password is a random string of characters; please do not change it (or, if you do for ease of use, tell me what you change it to). This is important for a part of this game's mechanics.
Most other normal Mafia rules apply: no posting game relevant information during night or once you are dead (including your actual identity), no posting your e-mail, no talking about the game (much) outside the thread, no e-mailing others (unless you are in a group, and then only at night).
One major difference will be the lynchings. Since this is a crazy witch hunt, there will be many more deaths during the day (hopefully). Only 33.34% of the people alive are needed for a lynching (so, 2 normal lynchings can occur every day). One is required; if no one reaches the number of votes needed at the end of a week, I will set a deadline, and then the player with the most votes will be lynched. The percentage of votes needed to lynch normally will change as the Town shrinks.
Roles:
Witches - the Mafia, but a bit different. You'll see.
Cult of the Moon - less powerful at the beginning, but they can recruit.
Cannibal - Serial Killer.
Judges - In addition to normal lynchings, there will be a number of Judges which have the power to cause an extra lynch simply by reaching a majority amongst themselves. Judges will be replaced by a random member of Town when they die (anyone at all), but as the Town becomes smaller, there will be less Judge positions (for example, when the Town reaches X players, if there are still 3 Judges alive, they will stay alive, but when one dies, he/she will not be replaced).
Investigators (Cops), Doctors, Farmers (Innocent Salem Citizens) - Duh.
Some other weird things - Bwahahaha.
Thus ends the general description of the game.

| Note on Aliases: The names were rather random (I thought up 20 or so first and last names, copied the list 3 or 4 times, randomized each column, and took the first 30). They have little to do with the roles; after I came up with the Aliases, they were randomly assigned roles and players. |

Ahh, the lack of education in this so-called enlightened age will be our downfall. I'm sure in the future, education will be top priority.

Little Albert: Aunt Mabel, read me a story.
Aunt Mabel: Ok, Albert... let's see. Ah, would you like to hear about Witches?
Little Albert: Witches? Like flying around on brooms and stuff?
Aunt Mabel: Something like that. Now get in bed, and I'll get the book.
This is a story about the early colonial...
Little Albert: Colonial?
Aunt Mabel: The first settlers of America from Europe. Anyway, the story takes place in Salem, in Massachusetts. You may have heard in school about how there were a lot of Witch Trials...
Little Albert: Yeah! They hanged a bunch of people!
Aunt Mabel: Right... well, this is about a time when there actually *were* Witches, and other scary things...
Early in the days of Salem, when few people had moved over from Europe, there was peace and prosperity. The farmers grew nice things, the Mayor went around approving of everything for no reason (no one listened to her mu...)
Little Albert: Her? I thought they only had male leaders.
Aunt Mabel: You think gender equality just started recently? Anyway... where was I? Oh, yeah..., the Mayor went around approving of everything for no reason (no one listened to her much, as she didn't actually do anything useful), and things were just generally good.
However, there were some people dabbling in Witchcraft. They were getting pretty fed up one night with the whole Puritan way of life, so they decided to do something about it.
Mayor Prudence English was walking around one night, when she found herself surrounded by a small group.
"Ah, the Mayor. Let's start with her, shall we?"
One of the Witches started chanting something in a weird tongue ("Lusi yuar sken fuul", or something like that), when suddenly the Mayor's skin ripped off all at once.
Little Albert: Cool!!
Aunt Mabel: A farmer, Nathaniel Martin, happened to be walking by. The Witches couldn't let him get away after seeing what they had done, so another Witch chanted at him ("Welk uff e cloff yua deft men"). Nathaniel got a strange look in his eyes, and proceeded to walk straight off a cliff.
Satisfied with their work, the Witches walked back to their respective houses. One, however, Faith Wilkins, heard a noise back by the body of the Mayor and went to check it out. Sniffing at the bloody corpse was a strange, wild looking person, who looked ready to eat poor Prudence.
"Um, ew," said Faith Wilkins.
"What? It's perfectly nice flesh. But yours looks... fresher..."
Before she could react, Faith Wilkins was stabbed and torn to pieces by the crazy Cannibal.
The next morning, the citizens of Salem woke to find the bodies. They concluded that evil spirits were about, and resolved to hang whoever looked like they might be dabbling in Witchcraft.
Little Albert: Wow... so what happens next?
Aunt Mabel: It's getting late. I'll read some more tomorrow night, ok?
Little Albert: Aw, alright. Goodnight, Aunt Mabel.
Aunt Mabel: Goodnight, Albert.

Prudence English (Mayor) - killed by Witches
Nathaniel Martin (Farmer) - killed by Witches
Faith Wilkins (Witch) - killed by Cannibal
10 to lynch. Day will end 1 day after someone first reaches 10 votes, or in 7 days, whichever comes first. Whoever has the most votes at that time will be lynched (and if there is a tie, both/all will be lynched). Hope that's not too confusing. |

Stares at the carnage and crosses himself
Oh, please Lord, guide us in our time of need. Help us find the ones behind this awful carnage. We have been invaded by two foul clans of witches, and need your advice now more than other.
Vote: Rebecca Martin by God's direct Will.

Oh dear me, this is just awful! I can hardly believe it. Of course, I always knew that Faith would come to no good -- the entire Wilkins family has always been *so* strange -- sleeping through sermons on Sunday when they even bother to show up, and never contributing to our community's pot luck dinners. Why, I would guess that the whole family is involved in this devil worship. I highly recommend that we string up (vote) Giles Wilkins.

| Our gracious host pointed out that he randomized the names when he bestowed them upon us. It wouldst maketh it too easy if all the witches were from the Wilkins family. I don't even think sister Faith was a real Wilkins. As a matter of fact, I suspecteth Sister Mary of stirring up trouble (or stirring the cauldron) by pointing her crooked finger at dear Giles.
