Robinson.
Yes, sire?
Tell me a story.
What kind of story, sire?
Any kind.
About a king and a princess, sire?
Not any kind, then. A story of murder.
Murder, of course, sire.
And deception. Betrayal. Villains. Heroes. Good conquering evil, you know, the usual stuff.
I will tell you a story from another place, sire. It is a story of logic, of longing, of nameless fears and chance meetings.
Yes, good, keep going. Deaths?
Yes. Deaths. One death every night, deaths that could not be prevented except by the extraordinary actions of ordinary men. Men who seek knowledge and see the inner hearts of the most hidden evils.
This story begins with twelve different people, in the same small neighborhood in the same small Town, in Bailan. In the dark country.
The dark country? How do you know this story, Robinson?
I am writing it even as you speak, sire.
So you do not know how it ends?
Time will tell me.
Very well, Robinson. Begin your story. I will not interrupt you.

INTRODUCTION
The dark country. The Town of Bailan. A small part of a small Town, insignificant. Twelve inhabitants. People who've made their own life in their own way, and there are probably hundreds of stories in Bailan, altogether.
This one's about the Vegondi Mafia. Ruthless killers from a place called New York City. No one knows why they're here, or even if they're here - it's a dark fear, a rumour that someone started and that everyone fears when they go to sleep at night.
Ordinary men. No miracle healers here, no men with superhuman strength, no women whose eyes see right through you. And everyone, even in this fear, lives together, fairly peacefully.
Tonight.
Tonight, something's going to happen.
THE CAST
Planky (Townie - The Seeker)
Vegtable2001 (Townie - The Dancer)
THE RULES
I'm telling a story. Stories, like all other things, are bound by rules, even a fantasy story like this one. Can you trust me? Probably not. Can you trust quercitron? Absolutely. But trust isn't the issue with the rules; that's duty, responsibility.
Should you need to lynch, that's by a simple majority. When a majority is reached, that's the end as soon as I continue the story. And when I continue the story it moves into Night. Night's when you're asleep. I talk. You listen.
You talk to each other in public, here. Everyone listens to everyone else. You don't talk privately unless you already know you can.
If you don't want to lynch anyone, you don't have to.
quercitron's like God. He has the power. If he sends you something, don't quote it. Don't abuse it. It's your revelation. I'm just the storyteller. Feel free to quote anything I say. It's your story.
THE GRAVEYARD
Trevize (Cop) - shot and killed, Night 1.
jesternl (Blade, Accomplice) - lynched by the Town, Day 1.
MatthewV (Townie) - shot and killed, Night 2.
Hitchhiker (Vegondi Mafia) - lynched by the Town, Day 2.
Werebear (Gunsmith) - shot and killed, Night 3.
Polotet (Vegondi Mafia) - stabbed himself at lynching, Day 3.
TANSTAAFL (Encyclopedia Bomber) - shot and killed, Night 4.
amb (Drunken Seer) - lynched and burned, Day 4.
MacadamiamaN (Retired Cop) - bombed, shot, and killed, Night 5.
Gaspode (Nameless Evil) - lynched, Day 5.

Here's the short version of the story as Robinson told it.
• The Vegondi Mafia are the bad guys.
• There are no Doctors.
• None of you are ordinary.
• You are all ordinary.
• Tonight, one of you is going to die.
And one other thing, which comes from me, not Robinson.
When I declare you dead, no talking, no matter what. If you have any issues or don't understand something, you talk to ME via EMAIL, NOT in the thread. Sorry for the emphases, just had a problem with this in two other Mafias. |

Day 1.
What happened, Robinson?
The Town awoke and Trevize wasn't there. He'd been shot in the chest, a rather messy wound, out on an old road, police car still there, vacant. Fresh tracks from two other cars. The work of the Vegondi Mafia.
The Vegondi Mafia? I'd expect a clean kill from a Mafia, Robinson.
The Vegondi were never much for clean kills, sire. With a police officer dead, the Town knew this was trouble. They gathered and decided they would kill one of their own.
You can tell this takes place in the dark country. Here we'd never do such a thing.
Yes, sire.
Continue.
Sire, those were the events of the first Night, but it seems that a great many of the Townspeople knew more than they were letting on...some even knew about the dead body before it was discovered, and not just the killers...
IT IS NOW DAY 1. CHECK YOUR EMAILS. SIX TO LYNCH. |

Vegtable2001: 1 (Planky)
Can he really vote for him in return like that, with no other reason?
Hitchhiker's female, sire. Two X chromosomes and all that. Something most of the people in this Town know. Some don't, though. TANSTAAFL's also female. Werebear's ursine. amb is male. Just so you know when we keep going.
Her, then. You amuse me, Robinson.
I try, sire. |

That is not good....
But let's try to see some positive in this..
only one kill... Either there is only one mafia family, or there are two families and the docter was succesful last night, or one family and one serial killer with a succesful docter. The chances of there being two mafia families AND an SK are slim I think...

* hijacks thread *
Hey just an idea for something different. Instead of the town illogically trying to lynch a person to take revenge on the mafia and usually just helping them - lets change the scene to the town offering the person as a sacrifice to the mafia God.
Or maybe not

Very good, sire.
That amb character. He's a funny guy. Sacrifice him.
Um, sire. That would disrupt the flow of the story.
The Mafia God demands a sacrifice.
Perhaps I'd better stop for the night...?

well, i'm tempted to change my vote to amb, just because he said we should sacrifice someone to the mafia god, and then whoever is hearing this story told Robinson to sacrifice amb
but instead i'm going to change my vote to jesternl for not reading the set up correctly. unless i misunderstood quercitron in reply 2 he says that there are no doctors. yes, I know it's not much of a reason to vote, but it could be that you are trying to distract us from something else |

Well you are right TANSTAAFL, I forgot that there are no docters.
But what exactly am I trying to distract you of? The fact that there are no docters? So that the the mafia thinks that there is a docter and will give up killing people? Nahhh don't think so.
You just made yourself suspicious, voting for the one vocal person based on Crap Logic (tm).

Night 2
Six? But...but that...
Yes, sire.
But...only in the dark country.
Yes, sire. They dragged jesternl into a makeshift noose and lynched him.
So callously.
It is so in the dark country. They looked at his corpse, and noticed a tattoo of a blade on his left arm, but nothing else out of the ordinary. And indeed a search of his house and a reading of his diary showed nothing.
What do you mean, nothing?
Another human dead. Another life lost. Another Townsperson lynched.
Innocently?
I'm afraid so, sire. As innocent as they come. The Town retired heavy-hearted to their homes for the events of the Night, but...
But not all of them stayed in their homes. I know, Robinson. But to decide so quickly...
It is so...
Yes, yes, in the dark country.
IT IS NOW NIGHT 2. SEND CHOICES IF YOU HAVE THEM. NO TALKING. |

Day 2.
What happened, Robinson?
The Town awoke and MatthewV wasn't there. He'd been shot in the chest, a rather messy wound, out on an old road, where he was running. Fresh tracks from two other cars. The work of the Vegondi Mafia.
That's what you said yesterday, Robinson. Was he a police officer, too? How formulaic is your story?
He was a simple Townsperson like most of them, sire. Out running, seeing things, maybe.
He would be mourned if the Town weren't in such bad shape.
Yes, sire.
Continue.
Sire, those were the events of the second Night, but it seems that a great many of the Townspeople knew more than they were letting on...some even knew about the dead body before it was discovered, and not just the killers...
One other thing. In the situation the Town's in, would discussion be advisable? You're making this story sound pretty twisty. I'm not sure if it's as simple as one death after another.
You're right, sire. The Town should be more careful. They should think about what they are doing, talk about the events of the night. This story is a puzzle of sorts. I'll be pleased if you solve it before I tell you the answers.
I thought so.
You're right, as always, sire.
IT IS NOW DAY 2. CHECK YOUR EMAILS. FIVE TO LYNCH. |

I'm sure you've noticed the nifty little bold phrases in your emails that say "NO quoting this email." That does not mean you cannot discuss the emails, only that you cannot quote them to support your point. Night 'actions' (not necessarily Night choices) are an integral part of this game. |

The one thing I notice is the pattern once again of the mafia killing the relative newbies.
This could be a clue. It has been done before by killing groups in mafia. Targetting newbies because doctors are less likely to protect them over mafia players with proven skills. And those players if they happened to be cops, docs or other pro town skills would be beneficial - so they tend to get protected thus giving the mafia a better chance of a successful kill.
So lets just stop this newbie killing nonsense now. Now its out in the open - you'll need to think twice about doing it.
Right now Im keen to hear what TANSTAAFL has to say. I have reason to believe she knows something about last nights killings - to be more specific - something happened that caused her to flee for her life - but not before seeing something vital or getting a clue as to what is going on. There is the outward possibility she was in on the kill, and if she denies what I say - I will vote her on that basis. It is more likely she was a target due to die. And she didnt.
TANSTAAFL - the town may not agree with me, and may hate me for it - but as far as Im concerned todays lynch decision could (and I SAY COULD) rest on your shoulders and what you have to say.
Amb.

The thing to remember is that we can't take anything for granted right now. Our narrator, Robinson, has basically declared himself unreliable. "Can you trust me? Probably not," he said. Wonderful.
He also said, "This story is a puzzle of sorts." Maybe everyone heard or witnessed something about somebody else? Maybe this is just one big logic problem, like the game of Clue?
I don't know who was responsible for last night's killing, but I do know someone who was not. I'm not sure how I'll be able to use this knowledge without placing either myself or someone else in a dangerous position. |

First of all, I missed the post where it's stated flat out - no docs. Sorry.

well, I didn't say anything about it the first night, cause I really didn't get any information. I sell encyclopedias. I know it sounds odd, but that is my role in this game. Trevize stopped me on my way home from work the first night and was shot right in front of me. All I saw of the killers was that it was someone in a black car wearing a mask. I didn't see how this information would be usefull in any way. Last night that same black car was following me, so I ran. It turned off, and apparently went after MatthewV. So I still don't see how this information is helpful to the town. We now know the mafia drives a black car and wears a mask.
