After his brother’s death Obliquemente was made mayor pro-tem. Solemnly he looks out upon the gathered town before him. Despair is close to him as he fully counts the living. Seventeen including himself. Only seventeen souls left in a city of hundreds. Reluctantly he looks to the side towards one of the massive funeral pyres. He is wracked by convulsions he convinces himself are coughs and wipes tears from his eyes surely caused by the smoke of the pyres.

When a gas pocket exploads in the blaze it takes all his will to avoid turning into a jibbering fool. Fear hangs over him and those gathered. It grows as the fires do and as the light of the sun fades.

He looks at his trusted neighbors. He has known them all his life. And he would trust them with that life. But he knows one of them is a killer. One or more of them has been brutally butchering the town. His friends. His trusted friends.

A whistling sound rises from the nearest pyre as another gas pocket escapes from another corpse. Against his will he turns to look, feeling bile pushing the top of his throat. The fire settles at its ashen center and raises great plumes of sparks, mesmerizing Obliquemente in horror. The top most body, his brother the mayor, only slightly charred, rolls over. The fires push his arm over as if beckoning.

Shaking himself he turns back to his trusted neighbors with wild eyes. “Friends. And not friends. Hole yourselves up tonight. Don’t let anyone in. Don’t let them kill you! Tomorrow they’ll be frantic, dazed without having killed. They are after me. But they won’t get me and will be unprepared to take any of you. Gather with the dawn and vote. Vote for whom to lynch. Find the killers to save yourself.” He glances over his shoulder towards the towering pyre. It is bright but he can still see clearly within. “I love you all. Vote well tomorrow, I hope this serves you.”

At the last his voice is drowned out by the frenzied roar of the nearest pyre. Slowly Obliquemente’s gaze turns to once more reside upon the rising conflagration. With a start, his feet find motion. Motion in time with the waving hand he can still see clearly. Rising in rhythm. Faster and faster. Hotter and hotter. The light is bright, so bright and is nearly all he can see, except the beckoning hand of his burning brother. Everything fades. The fire, the pain, the fear. Everything execept the hand. In triumph he clasps it.

Find the killers.

You all rise with the light and head to the cental square. Well, almost all of you. Two of you are already there.

One body is easily recognizable. Quagmire lies sprawled on the ground with a single bullet hole in the head. He holds a small straight knife with a thin sharp blade in his hand.

Unfortunately, the other body is not recognizable. Its head is not attached to its body. Despite some rigorouos searching the head can not be found. But by process of elimination you determine that it is PBug. Some of the less squeemish among you search the body and find a gun.

There are now but 14 of you. Eight to lynch. Less if a deadline is put in place.

Please vote.

It's annoying to just kill off somebody who posts first. In my experience that person usually has a role and it's hardly ever mafia

What do you think of the two that got killed? What are the chances of killing two bad guys on the first night? Not too high I think, which makes it somewhat likely that most/all characters will have an ability, either good or bad.
Neither of them had mafia in their descriptions.

I thought that at first. It could be that they were both evil. OTOH, PBuG may have owned a gun because he was a cop, but no badge was found.

It might've been a cop, but wouldn't the description say something to that effect?
They could both be evil in which case we are an incredibly lucky town, or there are very, very many bad guys, in which case we're SOL...

Am I the only one who thinks it sounds like Quagmire was a doc?
This:

sounds more like a scalpel than a weapon to me. At worst, I think we've lost both a doc and a cop. Ouch.

I didn't have the intention to vote for the first person to post. I'm too one of those people who are suspicious of anyone voting for the first to post/vote. I had the intention to vote for Werebear, just to taunt him for a bet he tried to win in Clue Mafia. It just happened that he posted first. You can see that the word "bet" is in italics. Anyway, I'm pro-town...

I'm not convinced. That is rather suspicious of Taf. However, I don't have anything against him - plus, in clue mafia, he was a rather good player who wouldn't make a mistake like that...

First day voting is a bear...
Vote: Taflinel, for no other reason than to keep things going..
What will happen next? Taf will say he is either a townie and that's all he can say, or that he has a role. We will lay off the bandwagon, and go to the next person, at which point the scenario repeats. And you know what sucks, Taflinel is most likely not even lying , and we will have lynched an innocent one. Tough luck, this is mafia. there are more townies than baddies (or at least I really hope so), townies get lynched in our quest to rid us from the bad guys.
Sorry Taf..

Yeah, right... Let's weaken the town side a bit...

I'm sorry but I won't reveal my role, as most of you seem impatient to lynch me anyway.

Quote:

I understand your logic but I won't accept it.

This game is not rolling as it should, so I guess any late-comers will just join the bandwagon just like jesternl. I don't blame them (or him) as this is indeed mafia.
So, before I get lynched, I'll give you the name of Mackay...
(Don't think that I'm trying to get lynched. I'm not an evil guy trying to spoil the rep of an innocent. You'll know that once you see Phantasm reveal my role. It would be better for the town to keep me alive but if you do want to kill me, I won't hold any grudges... )

Very few situations is it better for a town to be lynched than reveal. Taflinel, you're right, the bandwagon against you is crap. But it's there, and merely saying "But I'm pro-town" and "It's better for the town to keep me alive, but go ahead and lynch me if you want" isn't really helping much.
