| OK, I didn't realize that meant there was a different between LIST and list. |

Antrax,
I'm working from memory, but couldn't you make the compare case sensitive again, and prior to calling bbencode_first_pass (which I think the comparison happens), do something like this?
| Code: |
# replace mixed case list with lc list...
# case insensitive match, but preserve the case of the parameter
# in the replacement
$text = preg_replace ("#\[list(=[1ai])?\]#i", "[list" + \\1 + "]", $text);
|
If there are more than 1aAiI, then you'll need to alter that regexp a little.

It's very difficult to differentiate between the former and the latter if you're using a case-sensitive version of strcmp. _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. And quick! |

Nothing has changed since I posted that I'll get to it after this Sunday. Well, I know a whole of a lot more NP-complete problems, but nothing GL-relevant. _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. And quick! |

I'm guessing the large number (relatively) of registrations of late are bots that successfully registered, but failed to post. _________________ And he lived happily ever after. Except for the dieing at the end and the heartbreak in between. |

What if you flip the order of the fields? Put the profile info first, and then the registration info? Would that help at all?
Or stick a second "ignore this field" inbetween the password and confirm password? _________________

You could do a hidden <div> (display: 'none' or something) with a whole bunch of those, and have the relevant ones with silly names. Does anybody look at the names, ever? |

At the prompting I looked at the registration page and came up with another thought... is it feasible to have the string recognition randomiser switch capital and lowercase letters? That is, if the registrant sees "Fy5K2m" they should enter "fY5k2M?" Presumably, the bot sending this image to the clueless horny teenager would not also pick up the instruction prompting users to do this.
Or backwards, or Caesar-shift, or what have you. |

That's part of how i got my idea: user_name is way too close. Make it "identity_data" , and make other fields like that too |

CrystyB, computers aren't humans. Hello is as far from hello, to a computer, as dagnhapkfjnmk;a is far from 31931m93aquj0 to a human.
groza, that's an interesting idea. I'll have to do some reading on how phpbb generates its images, but I think that's a winning technique. _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. And quick! |

I know I don't read that email so it's a damned good question. I don't like the idea that there might be people who have been told to email the minotaur and done so, but have received no response.
As for groza's idea....that's a great idea (if possible). A small puzzle to register at a puzzle site. _________________ And he lived happily ever after. Except for the dieing at the end and the heartbreak in between. |

I don't think I explained myself very well.
99+% of the time, when I post in a thread and then view the forum I posted in, it considers my post as viewed. The above is an example of when the last post in a thread is by me, but considers the thread to have an unread post. I've tested returning to forum, post and the main index and there I have been unable to intentionally reproduce this.
My belief is that if it's a feature, it's an undocumented one. _________________ And he lived happily ever after. Except for the dieing at the end and the heartbreak in between. |

This exact behaviour happens to me on all the phpbb boards I'm on. Not sure if it's a cookie thing, a firefox thing or a phpbb thing, but it's not a GL thing. _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. And quick! |

Ok. I mainly brought it up because someone (IIRC courk?) brought it up many moons ago, and it just happened to me, so I had a screenshot. And I don't recall an explanation ever being given.
Perhaps I should have prefaced the image with "Why does this happen?"

I think it's a timing thing. It happens on all boards, though, so I haven't worried about it.
