Thanks for the link; I'll definitely use some of those ideas next year.
On the night of the silly riots, I walked around a bit. Every night, thousands of young Mongolian men get drunk; the only difference this time was that (a) they were all in one place, and (b) they were all angry about the election results. The main building they tried to burn down is a concrete monster... no amount of molotov cocktails could burn it down. |

Ease Pot Restrictions, Lawmakers Urge

One of the polls on that page asks if you've ever smoked pot or not. I just looked at the current results: 71% of those that voted said yes, they have smoked pot before.
Boy am I glad that poll is not scientific. |

Saudi Arabia says Games team will not include women
| Quote: |
| RIYADH, July 30 (Reuters) - When Saudi Arabia's Olympic team appears in Beijing next month, it will be conspicuous for the absence of women. Rashed al-Heraiwel, head of the Saudi delegation, confirmed no women would be in the lineup, apparently due to opposition by powerful clerics to women's participation in sport. |

Music industry drops effort to sue song swappers
| Quote: |
LOS ANGELES (AP) - The group representing the U.S. recording industry said Friday it has abandoned its policy of suing people for sharing songs protected by copyright and will work with Internet service providers to cut abusers' access if they ignore repeated warnings.
The move ends a controversial program that saw the Recording Industry Association of America sue about 35,000 people since 2003 for swapping songs online. Because of high legal costs for defenders, virtually all of those hit with lawsuits settled, on average for around $3,500. The association's legal costs, in the meantime, exceeded the settlement money it brought in. |

What's happening instead is that the RIAA is courting ISP's to restrict or deny service to persons who fileshare copyrighted music. Go ahead, fileshare all you want... if you can. _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |

I'm living in a Banana republic, where government can apply pressure to National Broadcasters to get them to stop reporting unfavourably.
Here's the report where an artist unlawfully hangs paintings in gallery
And after a call from the government's press secretary, RTE issued the following apology.
| The Independant wrote: |
| Last night, Fianna Fail Dublin-North TD Michael Kennedy called on RTE director general Cathal Goan to "consider his position". |
I would like to ask him to consider his position too, not for showing this valid news item however, rather for showing a complete lack of a spine and compromising our democracy by giving in to such pressure.
And this comes after Finance Minster, Brian Lenihan’s complained that an interviewer was asking “dangerous” questions regarding the nationalisation of Anglo-Irish Bank.
Dangerous questions!!!
Last I checked I was living in a democracy where politicians are subject to the people and should be open to scrutiny by a free press.
I'm livid.
I voted this government in, but they've definitely lost the run of themselves and desperately need a good kick in the ass. |

Judge sentences man to 6 months in jail for yawning
| Quote: |
Clifton Williams arrived at the Will County Courthouse in Joliet and sat in the fourth-floor courtroom where his cousin was pleading guilty to a felony drug charge.
As Circuit Judge Daniel Rozak handed down the cousin's sentence -- 2 years' probation -- Williams, 33, stretched and let out a very ill-timed yawn.
Williams' sentence? Six months in jail -- the maximum penalty for criminal contempt without a jury trial. The Richton Park man was locked up July 23 and will serve at least 21 days. |

The following is a link to an mp3 that I heard on the radio.
I found it fascinating (and a little sad) and thought others might like to hear.
There's some bad language and some graphic content, so be warned.
The mp3 should be available for about a week or so before the radio station removes it.

German fans want revenge grilling of oracle octopus
| Quote: |
Paul, a two-year-old octopus in a German aquarium, turned into a global celebrity for his uncanny ability to predict the winner of all Germany's matches -- even a group stage defeat to Serbia and an ousting by Spain in the semi-finals.
...
Not an ordinarily superstitious people, Germans became believers in Paul's possible psychic powers. The country was shocked and distraught when he picked Spain to win after tipping German wins over Argentina, England, Ghana and Australia. |
A psychic octopus? Maybe the stars are finally right. _________________ Freedom is not free |

THere are moves afoot here to allow people to trade public holidays for their own ones. You dont celebrate Christmas, okay you dont get time and a half for working it, but pick another 'holy' day you want, and you can get time and a half if asked to work it.
I can see me making my birthday a public holiday. |

That seems weird to me. If I don't celebrate Christmas then I'm more likely to want to work during that rush and get that time-and-a-half. And then I'll just ask for time off during my own holy day(s) since whatever business I'm at will likely be less busy then anyway. _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |
