It doesn't work as well with compund words, either. It took me a while to figure out what Phil's word said.

It made me realise I haven't seen macros in forever, though. I wonder what's up with him.

NeocortX, you're just being sanyt!! (just checking my own hypothesis, that human mind doesn't even need first and last letters to make up a meaning. This only works in fewer cases, but still...)

CrystyB, it requires that both the first and last letter of the word are left alone. The only letters you are supposed to be able to change are the ones in the middle.

okay, well then your example doesnt' work. I imagine that it took courk a minute to figure it out, which isn't the same as reading it at a normal pace.

It took me longer than the average delay to understand "cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd" too. That doesn't make the example wrong, does it? I mean, not even completely mispelled "reading" ("rdgnieg", check it out) makes it too hard, imo...

What i think really happens is that the brain uses its memory of past phrases to have a list of words that would fit in the context (the context is essential; a separate word should take longer to understand). It then reads a few random letters and chooses the best fit. I haven't even looked at the whole word above, and by just seeing the starting D i "IAULESASTTNNNOY" thought, "disagree"...

Test: ltteer awylas mttaer iltesf
