You should be careful about connecting "low" and "40s" with a hyphen! (and there are times when forty below may seem balmy...)

Nearly all the snow melted in a period of about 5 days.

There were warning os major snow storm all weekend. Most of it happened on Saturday. On sunday it rained and was warm enough to melt all of the snow of my car before I drove home from Buffalo. I got home just in time as the temperature dropped and all the rain froze into a skating rink here...

98% OF AMERICANS SAY 'OH SHIT' BEFORE GOING IN THE DITCH ON A SLIPPERY ROAD.

THE OTHER 2% ARE FROM BUFFALO, AND THEY SAY, 'HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS.'

The 5% who live in NC are idiots who can barely drive a golf ball, much less a car. We got an eighth of an inch of snow once (absolutely no exaggeration, I'm serious) and it shut down the state. The roads had not been salted, and so the snow melted and immediately refroze. Despite the fact that half of the population own 4-wheel-drive vehicles for no reason, they all ran off the road and caused traffic delays of better than 12 hours. Kids had to stay overnight in schools because the buses couldn't run and the parents couldn't get out to pick them up.

Meanwhile, I ran errands. In a front wheel drive Toyota.

I can't drive a golf ball. I always always hook, slice, hit just off the top (10 feet! Woohoo!) or miss entirely.

My car is a tank when it comes to snow. Yesterday I plowed it through a 18 inch hard-as-rock thank-you-for-plowing-me-in snow bank in Buffalo in low gear, in reverse in a front drive car. Sunday was nasty to drive home in, watching those idiots still trying to go over 100kph on a highways covered in ice and snow, or just trying to weave in and out of traffic. One put their brakes on HARD immediately after getting into my lane, trying to insert himself in a too-small gap between my car and the one ahead of me. He promptly spun out, saving me the luxury of slamming into him which would have happened if he hadn't involuntarily moved out of my lane.

I made it home safely, and now it's snowing again.

My car sucks in snow. Rear wheel drive and all that. There doesn't even need to be 1/8" of snow for it to swerve on its own into curbs. It doesn't get driven in anything resembling winter.

If you did that to me, I'd punch you in the arm (once I got out of the car). My car has heavy bags of ballast in the back to avoid that problem. In the front there's, well... me.

A few minutes ago I noticed a wee bit of thunder and lightning. A bit unusual in winter. Now it's snowing like crazy. It's almost like the lightning shredded the clouds, and this is the debris.

Well we haven't had snow in central London at all so far this year (at least not that counts) until this morning, when it's finally kicked in and started to settle properly.. Doesn't look as though it's going to stop soon either.

Apparently it's caused some flights to be cancelled at Heathrow Terminal Five. What a lousy excuse...

The forecast is for a high of 42°C (about 107°F) today. Maybe one of those global warming fluctuations will cause a blizzard later in the day.
