Well, it's around Thanksgiving time, and people are, obviously, giving thanks for things. We don't do that in Australia, but I've been asking people what they're happy about today. I've received some truly heartwarming answers - everything from "the sweet potato and apple thing my mom makes" to "starting a new book to read" to "waking up in my own bed".

We all focus too much on things that make us unhappy. Tell me something that happened today that made you smile.

Hmmmm... as for me... well, my little sister went out and bought me lunch for no reason. That's a start!

There's a salami shop here in Seattle, called Salume, run by the father of Mario Batali (notable TV Chef (one of the US Iron Chefs in the upcoming adaptation)). They. Have. This. Meat. Called. Mole.

My brother bought me a stick today.

What if I have nothing to be thankful for? Does that make me like evil?

Then again, I guess I could just be thankful that I have nothing to be thankful for, but then the universe would end.

Travis, shouldn't you be a bit unhappy that your newspaper didn't arrive, your TV doesn't work, your radio apparently broke, and that the only internet site you can access is the GL?

Not that kind of news, Courk. I was talking about personally directed information, including junk mail. But if the tv, radio, internet does go down, I can always spend some quality time in the hamster ball.

I made friends with a telemarketer!

She was trying to raise money for a cancer charity, and I have a soft spot for those, so I was very friendly to her, even though I have no money. I joked about how sucky it must be to be a telemarketer, and was amazed at just how accurate that is... I heard some pretty bad stories. Then we just, um, kept talking! I promised I'd give a donation sometime in the future when I had money (I will, too - like I said, I'm a sucker for cancer charities), so she made arrangements to send me a pledge sheet or whatever it's called, and then we talked some more. And then we exchanged emails. She said I was the best thing that had happened to her all day.

Later she called back... said she'd been too busy laughing to confirm my address. Felicitous

Making someone else's day totally made mine.

Oh yeah... and try to be nice to telemarketers! (At least the ones who are doing it for a good cause.)

Well, I didn't leave work today until 11:45pm when I got off at 9pm.

That's because I was sticking around to hang out with a friend of mine who had locked her keys in her car and was waiting for help to arrive. We got to spend some quality time laughing and telling stories with the two of us and my supervisor. So even though the reason was lousy, the company was great =)
