I haven't seen much rain here, more of a it-just-rained look.

You know it's because of global warming caused by those bastards making PVC pipe.

Mackay, I don't think you understand what 3+ weeks of rain really is. It's not like "Oh, it rained this morning, now it's sunny." No. It's gray outside all day. The sun never comes out. Nothing ever dries. Day and night practically blend into each other.

It hasn't rained in the Phoenix area for the last eleven weeks. But it's a burning desert so no one is surprised.

She lived in a subtropical climate for a few months. She's knows about endless rain, ultra-high humidity, and what it's like to live in a very wet environment.

Seattle will probably feel like a somewhat colder home away from home to her Wink

rain + humidity is the endless rain in summer. Matt's talking about endless winter rain. There is no humidity, everything just feels colder. Summer rain is preferable to winter rain.

Schweeeet! Macky is moving to Kodiak!

Interestingly enough, it wasn't raining when I got up. There were stars out tonight! Woohooo!

And it got cold and the roads now have a thin glaze of ice covering them. Eeeek.

The weather in Kodiak moves slowly (sometimes). Sometime we can have a few weeks of sunny days when a high pressure zone is stuck over out heads. Sometime we get weeks of rain with the low pressure stuck over our heads.

This batch wasn't directly annoying or anything. It was just dreary. The sun sets at about 5:00 pm (dark at 5:40) but even the daytime was very bright. Everything blended together into "Yeah, I want to stay inside. Again.". Just listen to Courk.

The only thing truly predictable about our weather is that it will snow during spring break Confused

No way. Between Guam and Pensacola I got years of summer rain. As for winter rain in Fresno that's the only time it does rain (same here in SD). I HATE HATE HATE HATE summer rain. I love winter rain.

I'm not sure what your point is. Raining? 45F? Much better than raining and 45C.

It was a nice juxtiposition. It would rain all the time in Pensacola and especially Guam when it was 35-40 C. Even if the rain doesn't hit you, you're soaked. Courk, that just sucks sucks sucks. Whereas in winter rain, hello, umbrella.

I will agree that a cold rainy day isn't bad in itself. However, a long stretch of this type of weather (like three weeks) really wears people out. It no longer is a physical problem of "this isn't pleasant" to wearing out the mind.

I need a "white post" because of the way I set up things.

In all seriousness. Rain would mean I could sleep. Constant rain would be a bit annoying, but I would be able to sleep at night and not lay there suffering. I'd be cooped up inside, but I would not be dehydrated and sluggish and weak.

Yeah, I'd take "boring" over "torture". Felicitous

Right. Backup plan #41283 for world domination: Build weather machine, make it rain at around 2°C for a month, wait for population to kill themselves. Use army of zombies to kill any of these "error margin" people who refuse to acknowledge my purple monstery supremacy.

ooh, i do. before you said it was 112.1 F (nb: since we yanks have smaller degrees, we're happy to leave the decimals off Wink )

i have experienced 112 F, though. it was really, really hot. gigantihot. sweated like crazy. still, the sky was nice and blue and it wasn't depressing like a long string of rainy days. i had air conditioning at home and work, though...if you don't that would suck. i'd probably get some sleeping pills or get plenty drunk before going to bed.

It's not humid here, I'm not sure where that came from. The town where I live is semi-arid. But I actually prefer the dry heat so that isn't an issue. =) (Humidity is worse, there is absolutely no escaping it)

Swimming, cold showers, etc, are fantastic, you can actually feel the water sucking the excess heat from your skin, taking the extra pressure of your body to do so. But the relief afterward lasts all of about an hour (if that) before you go back to being overheated and miserable.

I suppose it is partially a matter what wanting what you cannot have. Griffith gets rain maybe once every couple of months. This last year has been fantastic, lots of rain, but in general it is pretty rare. When it does rain, it tends to rain a lot. I love it. Rain is far more likely to coax me outside than sunshine. Felicitous

I still don't get why rain is considered depressing. I love it.

worm, I would not trust myself with sleeping pills or nightly alcohol, for fear I would become reliant upon them to help me sleep. My family has enough drug addicts and alcoholics as it is. =)

In any case, there are two things near-guaranteed to help me sleep without help from any substances. The sound of rain outside my window is one of them. =)

depends on the rain. it can be very refreshing, especially if you don't get it that often. and yeah, it's good for sleeping. thunderstorms and lightning are fun to watch.

but grey skies and rain for days on end can be pretty depressing.

there are other, more natural and healthier ways than pills and drinking...they were just the first that came to mind go get some valerian root or ask aga.

I'm with you mackay. I love rain....when it doesn't make everything miserably muggy. I don't see how anyone can say they prefer 90F+ with 95+ humidity unless they've never experienced it.

mack just said it's not that humid where she is and even before i assumed it was dry. seems like once it gets that hot it has to be a dry heat. or maybe humid air just takes so much more energy to heat up. whatever, to be clear i'd prefer a really hot, dry heat to never-ending rain.

i grew up in central virginia which doesn't get as hot as here in tx, but the humidity is often much worse (90+, 95+ not uncommon) and many summers we didn't use a/c so i know how miserable it can be.

Dry heat is much more tolerable than wet heat. I grew up in Fresno CA and it easily gets over 110 in the summer. Hot but you can sweat and actually accomplish something. However, I'd rather have a month of rain than a month of 100-110 heat. I can see that coming down to personal preference, but not the mugginess/rain debate.

The thing about Amarillo is that it's a desert. The same is probably true for where Chuck is at. It can be 100+ degrees here during the day, but it's dry and there is a lot of wind. Then, come night time, it's down to 60 degrees. Pretty nice exchange compared to the muggy east Texas.

I've gone jogging on days when it was 110°F and the humidity was under 10%. I have a 2 mile limit on those days, though. If I try to go much farther I start to feel lightheaded and sometimes mildly nauseous.
