As expect, Bride has no trouble dumping Hero. Early on, Die Hard had some competition from Roger Rabbit, but after a few days it became clear that one was a done deal as well.
Neither the Usual Suspects nor Toy Story were ever in doubt over Lost in Translation and Boondock Saints respectively.
Then we come to the most heated match. After trading blows all the way to the mid 20's, Blade Runner suddenly got a push to get by Lion King in the last few days.
For the first two days it looked like Great Escape had a chance of upsetting a star wars movie, but before long ESB took over.
In the 7/10 match, Oz started with a huge push, leading by as much a 10-3. Before long Angry Men had closed the gap to 14-12. This would be as close as it would get, as from this point on Oz dominated.
Finally, Memento had no trouble of creaming Uden...
This gives us the 2nd round match ups:
Princess Bride vs Die Hard
Usual Suspect vs Toy Story
Blade Runner vs Star Wars V
Oz vs Memento
I anticipate that Bride and Memento will have no trouble. Toy Story has a good shot of upsetting a 2nd movie, and I hope that Blade Runner stops its upset wins at one. |

"Se7en going down to Eternal Sunshine will be obvious, and I'll agree with it, but it's a pretty rough second round draw."
Looks like it might not even make it out of the first round. A half-movie is giving it quite a run for its money. |

| Oh, no, how could I? I neglected to nominate Sneakers, one of my all-time favorite movies. Just two nominations wouldn't have done it, but I still feel like I've let a close friend down. |

| Yeah I missed nominations too, maybe I'll post the list I'd have submitted for the sake of it, but two movies that wold be on my list I already see absent were Total Recall and A Fish Called Wanda. Total Recall possibly being my favorite with a great storyline to go with the action, sci-fi, and humor of an Arnold movie. |

ok, just for the sake of being contradictory, Total Recal is on my worst movies ever list. Mainly for the tasteless and gratuitous violence which was simply propostrous (sorry I can't spell). The idea was cool but everything else turned me off from it and I was thouroughly disgusted by the end. Sorry.
on another note, I really like most of Crystyb's list except am I allowed to dislike the Sound of Music also? or is that just too much contradiction for one post? |

extro, yes, i would. In fact, i did. If i had a 50-spots list, i would have picked both, but on this list i wanted to have at most one of any series (Matrix, StarWars, Lord of the Rings, Terminator, Back to the Future, Die Hard, Shrek), so i went with the movie that appeals to me more out of the two, contrary to having only first parts for all the rest (i guess that means i don't really think any of the other series ever had appealingly better later parts...).
Moose, be contradictory however many times you want in one post. Your disliking a movie i have on my list doesn't really contradict me, it is merely a slight difference of oppinions between us. i "Like and let dislike!" And who do you really think would be bothered by a contradictorial post of yours? (certainly not me!) |

I meant to mention this when I posted my list of nominations, but it took quite awhile to narrow, and so I forgot.
I think Moose has splendid taste. I'm not sure whether I mesh better with her list or Antrax', but it's a pretty close call. There was not a close third. fnord. |

thanks to...
Wordcross for helping me spell. I came across the same word in a book yesterday and noted it. perhaps I'll retain the correct spelling next time. preposterous. (that was practice)
CrystyB for giving me permission to be as contradictory as I want. I'll try not to abuse the power.
and to casinopete for making me feel good about my "splendid taste" in movies.
yay!
on another note I saw Finding Neverland the other day and I found it spectacular so everyone should go see it!! |

And so the 2nd week comes to end, with 6 exciting matches.
Only Shawshank and Groundhog Day advance without any difficulty, as both Glory and Reservoir Dogs roll over and die.
Next, both the Star Wars and LotR movies faced stiff early competition, as both alien and jurassic park took early leads. However, the 3rd or 4th day Jedi and Two Towers took the lead and never looked back. Vallient efforts though.
Kill Bill looked like it had a chance to pull off the biggest upset thus far as a 15th seed, but Eternal Sunshine managed to hold 'ol bill off for the win.
The other 3 matches were chaos. Ties, lead changes, the works. The combined margin of victory for Silence of the Lambs, Ocean's Eleven, and Se7en was 4 votes. Farewell to you Men in Black, North by Northwest and the Sting...we hardly knew ye.
In particular I was very glad to see NxNW do as well as it did. I was afraid the newer, flashier horror movie would walk all over the only Hitchcock representative (not even Psycho made it in), but se7en had to sweat it out the whole way. What a match. |

And so the first round comes to a close. What a ride it was. Here are some stats for you:
Highest Vote Getter: Monty Python with 39
Lowest Vote Getter: Lost in Translation with 7
Most popular Match: Alien vs LOTR: The Two Towers with 60
Least popular Match: Godfather 2 vs Battle Royale at 27
Most votes by a loser: Men in Black with 26
Least votes by a winner: Godfather 2 with 14
Biggest Margin of Victory: Monty Python with a 29 margin over American Beauty
Smallest Margin of Victory (Tie):
Ocean's Eleven vs Men in Black
Se7en vs North by Northwest
Godfather 2 vs Battle Royale
Were all decided by 1 vote. By percentages, Ocean's Eleven vs Men in Black takes the cake (By being the most popular match of the 3), with a margin of 1.88%.
Biggest Upset: Finding Nemo as a 14th seed topples 3rd seed Donnie Darko. All 1st and 2nd seeds won, though Eternal Sunshine struggled the mot.
Streaks: All 3 Star Wars, all 3 LotRs, and both Indiana Jones movies advance. No other series shared this success. Only one of the terminator movies, one Monty Python, and one Godfather advanced.
If those streaks keep up, those 3 series will account for half of the sweet 16. |

Some numbers of the second round as we approach the final 16:
Highest Vote Getter: Die Hard with 42
Lowest Vote Getter: Tie between Godfather part 2 and Eternal Sunshine with 12 each
Most popular Match: Die Hard vs Princess Bride with 82
Least popular Match: Fight Club vs Godfather 2 with 29
Most votes by a loser: Princess Bride with 40
Least votes by a winner: Fight Club with 17
Biggest Margin of Victory: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade wis by 22 over the Fifth Element.
Smallest Margin of Victory: Star Wars V: Empire Strikes Back vs Blade Runner was decided by 1 vote.
In addition, Princess Bride vs Die Hard and MP:Holy Grail and Star Wars V went into an overtime tied.
Biggest Upset: Die Hard takes down heavy favorite, first seed Princess Bride.
The Incredibles also do the incredible, taking out top seed Matrix.
In addition, Se7en (A seventh seed...weird...) takes down 2nd seed Eternal Sunshine and Wizard of Oz eliminates 2nd seed Memento.
Composition of sweet 16 by seeding and by division:
9, 5, 3, 7
1, 5, 3, 7
9, 5, 3, 2
9, 5, 6, 2
Interesting. The only constant is the 5th seeds. What a round for upsets!
The best is yet to come! The two remaining LotR movies try to make their division all Tolkein, while the Indiana Jones movies have a show down for the ages. Meanwhile, the 7th seed topplers move on to face two Star Wars movies. Can they continue the magic? and now that Princess Bride is gone, who is the favorite? Is die hard really that strong? Stay tuned to find out! |
