33 movies got 3 nominations, 16 of those will get in. The top 2 in all 8 posts will advance. Polls to be held open for a week total.

Men in black. Over both Deer Hunter, Hero AND Kill Bill? Gee, I can't wait to see who's going to win this, if this is what happens in the prelims. _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. And quick! |

Meh, Men In Black is cool. I've never seen the Deer Hunter, and I didn't know which Hero it was (and I'm too lazy to ask)...if it would have been Kill Bill 1, I'd've voted for that instead. Two was cool and all, but not as much cartoony blood and violence, which is just far too much fun. _________________ "I have an everyday religion that works for me: love yourself first, and everything else falls into line." --Lucille Ball |

I believe the Hero in question is the new one. The one that's like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
But I'm not sure. |

| People need to see Hero. If you have and are still voting for MIB or Deer Hunter (I guess I can give people credit for Kill Bill), you might want to check with your doctor. Your medication may be having some side effects. |

Kill Bill was lousy. I thought MiB was ok, I have no plans to watch Hero, and the Deer Hunter was fantastic. _________________ Monkeys are better dead. |

| MIB is a fun film to watch - but I wouldn't say it's a classic. Kill Bill sucked wookie, and I haven't seen the other two, so I really only had the one choice. |

| No, I didn't like it. I have yet to see a Quentin Terentino film I've liked - and I do go into them with an open mind. I want to like the movies, but I never do. |

Kill Bill-Didn't like it. It's fun to watch just for all the blood and stuff, but I thought the plot was, well, sucky.
Hero-I voted for this one. Awesome film
MiB- Would have been my second. A fun film
Deer Hunter - Haven't seen it, never even heard of it. _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |

So, Kill Bill's plot is "sucky", but Hero and Men in Black are the epitome of good screenwriting? Huh? _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. And quick! |

| No one ever said MIB had great screenwriting. We've merely said it's fun to watch. It actually entertains me, whereas I was bored by Kill Bill and couldn't even finish it. |

Hero's plot, while simple, was imo well done. Men In Black's plot was good mostly for novelty's sake. Kill Bill 1's plot was not as good 2's, since it was mostly just a blood fest. I'm not calling any of it the epitome of good screenwriting. There are very few movies in the entire list that I would credit with being that good. Therefore, with the rest of the movies, I am voting based on my own experience and impressions, making it wholly an opinionated choice.
Having said that, my post from above is my opinion of the movies and my voting reflects the enjoyment i got from each. _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |

Well duh. It's just that the runoffs have left a small head-shaped dent in my wall, and I'm trying to understand what the hell's going on. In this particular case, I think every single one of the other movies is better than Men in Black, which is a completely bland movie. _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. Those not ever hearing of 'Deer Hunter'............is it because of your age, or something else?
Sorry, I just find it hard to imagine a bunch of Yanks, however old, not ever hearing of 'Deer Hunter'
And on yet another rare occassion I have to agree with Antrax. MIB was an average at best comedy, with slightly better than average special effects. The story was not particularly great, not particularly funny, but One can see the appeal to younger audiences, but not in voting for the greatest film ever. |

| It was also the Best Picture winner of 1978, and Christopher Walken received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor from it too. |

I agree - it surprises me too. But then in one of the other threads:
| MatthewV wrote: |

I remember it being just about yesterday when Jurassic Park was released.
Regarding Deer Hunter, two nitpicks I have about it are:
1) The deer hunting scene, where DeNiro is stalking the deer, going after it. Completely and absolutely unrealistic. Anybody who knows anything about deer hunting knows it's a game of sit still and wait, with no movement beyond lifting the rifle and pulling the trigger if the time comes. Given the title of the movie, they could have been more realistic in that regard.
2) The part where all the money is coming to the US from Christopher Walken in Viet Nam, who (spoiler) is having a very long winning streak playing Russian roulette. The odds are just a bit much.
What I loved about it was the wedding reception scenes - having been to many weddings in those areas (Pennsylvania coal-mining type towns), I found it captured the atmosphere very well.[/sub] |

| I can't really use my age as an excuse for never having heard of it - the movie I'm rooting for is 15 years older. I don't know if my parents ever saw it or liked it. How often is it on TV? Those and friends really are my primary sources for new movies to watch. |

Just dropping in to agree with Antrax, to within experimental uncertainty.
Hero was one of the best films I've seen this year, the Kill Bill set was another. In both cases, the action and characters are so incredibly lucid that a plot becomes scenery. Another such film that I enjoyed was King Arthur, which seems to have poorly received. |

| Hero was awesome. I loved the fight scene between flying snow and moon. The fight where broken sword and jet li's character fought on the lake was silly though. |
