I've seen 1/4 of these movies combined Revenge most foul! The Two Towers was the worst of the books, but how much power will LOTR have in general?

Of the books I've started (I've never actually finished any of them), I got furthest in TTT. I didn't even get half way through FOTR. Obviously I didn't really like the books since I've never finished them, but in that limited set, TTT is my favorite.

Odd. It was my most hated. I've read them all, and TTT was the most boring. It was filled with politics and stuff.

Really? I agree that TTT is the best LOTR book. Since it is assumed that the readers already know the characters, it doesnt waste a lot of time with the exposition. IMHO, that was FOTR's biggest flaw. The story doesn't really begin until about 100 pages into the book. The first time I tried to read it, I lost interest in the beginning. The end of ROTK is VERY drawn out. TTT doesnt have either of those... Plus, it has my favourite chapter. How could you not love "The Voice of Saruman?"

The movies, however, are a different story. I didnt enjoy TTT as much in theatres. I thought it was poorly done until I saw the extended edition dvd. The few extra scenes really fill in the holes.

I forget most of book 3. At that point I was just triyng to get it over with, so I can't really critique it. I do however remember enjoying the first book. I don't know what it was, but Fellowship struck me as pretty cool. Maybe it was the idea of all these different types of people forming a party (a la DnD) to accomplish some task. The second one just killed it for me though. I don't recall the chapter you're talking about, can you remind me what it was about?

Over all though, I hated those long poems. I always skipped them, because they were so boring.

I think TTT is the best movie of the three. I still voted Alien, because I see nothing special about the LotR trilogy, film-wise. It's just yet, another long, epic, drawn out story. The CGI work was poor compared to, say, Matrix Reloaded, and in general it was nothing special, other than being about LotR of course.

I don't care about the LOTR books.

The movie blew, IMO. I never saw Alien, so I voted for it because I wanna see all LOTR movies go down.

"The Voice of Saruman" was the chapter where Gandalf et al meet Saruman at Orthanc, Saruman attempts to get them on his side again, and Gandalf ignores him and casts him from the order, and Grima throws the palantir at the Fellowship.

I'm not voting on the poll because I haven't seen Alien; in fact, of the 32 first-round matches, there's not one where I've seen both movies. I don't watch many movies, as you can tell. I liked the LOTR books and movies, though.

That is the problem in this voting game. Why the hell vote for something you have not seen just to bud against something you dislike? Confused
For me, I have voted on films I liked, then abstained from voting on either films that I never saw or films in a catagory where both are real bad. Not once would I vote for something I never watched, and I would NEVER use a vote like the one above, no matter how much One hates the choice given.

Pah!

Since this is a contest to find the GL's most favoritest movie, I think it is perfectly valid to vote for a movie you like over a movie you haven't seen. It does seem rather questionable to vote for a movie you haven't seen, though - it obviously cannot be one of your favorites.

Alien.
I loved parts 1 and 3 of the LotR trilogy, but did not like TTT. Alien is a great SF horror classic.

Alien. Was the only movie to ever give me nightmares. Of course, I was only 8 when I saw it and I snuck into it at a theater so I deserved the nightmares.

That refers to the Music Tournament I had a few months back. There was some confusion as to how I was handling the nomination process.

I assure you the movie tournament started with that post.

The Two Towers was always the book my interest dwindled in. I could get through the Fellowship, but about halfway through TTT i stop reading. Eventually I force myself to continue, and plow through RotK within a few days.

For me, it has been too long to compare books but the two towers was dismal and a go-no-where to see.

The fellowship was the best movie IMO - plot , story, entertainment value.

Movie wise, gollum sucked and in the tres towres there was a tremendous amount of time spent on that character. And in TTT a lot of time is spent on war scenes and during war scenes, the plot goes no where.
The war scenes went on into eternity.

What am I trying to say? Nothing good, I suppose.

I've never actually finished TRotK. Got about 40 pages in and couldn't go on. That was about 20 years ago.

Well, it seems to me that only the people who don't like LotR are posting. BUT IT'S STILL WINNING!
Sorry for the caps. Just trying to emphasize.
Personally, I loved the movies. I will admit that of the three, Two Towers was my least favorite, but it was still a good movie, IMO.

In regards to the books, I thought they were all okay. I read through all of them with ease, and enjoyed them in the process. Fellowship was my favorite, but the other two definitely weren't lacking.

zK, that was one of my favorite chapters, too. I'm disappointed that they left it out of the movies, but...oh well.

That might be because only Alien fans need a way to release their frustration... After all, there are 60 votes and only 30 posts. And quite a number of posts are made by the same user, so there...

Speaking of sequels, I just watched the Whole Ten Yards, and I don't know what to think. It was kind of like Ocean's 11&12. They had to make it different (and they did), but it was wierd. I don't know if I like it better or not. What do others think?

Haven't seen that one yet.

Looked for the thread on this and couldn't find it - Just saw H P and the prisoner of asbakan! Loved it! The falcon-horse creature (named buckbeak?) was awesome! So was the scenery! The giant clock and the shots of that....bravo on the John Williams music too!
On an objectional note, I know Richard Harris can't be adequately replaced in the movie but am still a bit disappointed with the new Dumpledoor and the new Malfoy even more. WHat happened to the real Malfoy?

Emma has....has really grown! and Longbottom has lost some weight!

Anyways, I do think it's the best Harry Potter yet! Was the half blood prince as good?

What thread is this?
