I'm sure some of you are saying "about time," and you're right, it is about time I went back to school.
I'm going back to school for the first time in 15 years (not including the Navy). My major will be Computer Science but since there's so much over lap I'm considering a double major with mathematics. From the available BSs I chose three possibles but I'm not sure which would mesh best with CS.
The options are:
Emphasis in Applied Mathematics
Emphasis in Computational Science
Emphasis in Science
Any suggestions? |

| That's all the details you can give? Isn't there a list of what's going to be studied in those three branches? I mean, at least two or three major courses from each would help a lot... |

Also, since you were in school in the past, you should have some idea of what you like, and what you're good at (these are often the same, but not always). That would help, as well. _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. And quick! |

Out of those choices, I would assume that Applied Mathematics will have the most women in the classes. _________________ "I didn't know she was your sister I swear!"

With the information you gave, I'd say Computational Science - it has most of the same letters.
Can you talk to anyone at wherever you're doing this to find out what their opinions are? Advisors would likely know which option is the best match better than we could by just reading descriptions. |

I can give a bit more. I assumed someone would be familiar with the differences. Oops.
All I currently have are a list of "preparation for major courses" since I'll be taking my first classes at a Junior College.
Unfortunately only"Emp in computational science" is different. All three have the following.
That list:
- Calculus I, II, & III
- Mathematics software workshop
- Discrete mathematics
- Intro to linear algebra
- Intro to computer programming
- Statistical principles and practices
Emp on Computational Science also has
- Intermediate Computer Programming
- Intro to Computational Programming and Visualization
This seems to be the most similar. |

Yeah, but 15 years ago. And I only took two semesters of Calc. I've always liked "math" and been good at it. Not sure if that translates well to the much higher math though. |

Well, your list is just the basic courses you have in order to learn anything at a high level, really. You can't learn anything if you don't know enough math to analyse it. I have no clue what "emphasis on science" means - it could mean you'd be learning quantum computations and bioinformatics, or how to write simulations, or how to solve differential equations using approximations. Emphasis on Computational Science means a lot of CS theory, I guess - computability, complexity, things like that. That's the focus of my degree. Applied math probably means studying graphs and the such from the mathematical angle. But this is just guesswork. What courses are specific to each of the emphases(?)? _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. And quick! |

I found the classes required for major, but not what they mean (I.E. Mathematics 337, 521A,etc.)
Anyway, I think I'm just going to focus on the basic reqs and then I can shift majors later if need be. |

I guess you've browsed the net a little bit to find out what this CS really is, and read something about it, at least? Seems all right, but i don't know if you feel like going deep into it.
As for the other two, Applied Math and "Science" - i don't feel i know enough to state any oppinion...
PS tigerbalm, i've nodded (in private) at the title too, but i guess i just didn't feel like dilluting the subject with a comment about it. |

I want a hot chick report when you start, with boinkability ratings. That may give me motivation enough to begin to maybe consider probably doing the same. _________________ "I didn't know she was your sister I swear!"

| If you ever want to change your major, you can use the logic someone in my class allegedly used (I never spoke to him, so I'm not sure how accurate this is). He decided to be a nursing major in order to meet girls. |

Yes, I briefly went myself. But I'm taking night classes and they aren't (except for world music) fluff classes. Anyway, if they're dumb all the better for me to get back into the swing of things right? _________________ And he lived happily ever after. But... you're like 30, and the girls will be 18. We have someone like you here, he's Chuck's age (he even looks a little like Chuck) and he's doing his BSc in computer science. I don't think he's getting many chicks. Other than the TA in Data Structures, maybe. There's definitely something there. Whenever he starts complaining about her solutions in his belligerent tone she melts. _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. Actually I'm 35 (Chuck's 30?....go Chuck!), not that that matters much. What really matters is that I'm excited to meet more people than I have since I went into hibernation after being arrested 5 years ago. I like people and I look forward to interacting with some with common interests. Can you blame me for hoping that I might meet someone intriguing, attractive, and intelligent? Mind you 2 or even 1 out of 3 would be ok... _________________ And he lived happily ever after. Except for the dieing at the end and the heartbreak in between. |

It depends on which school Samadhi is attending. Community college is full of underachievers, old people getting back on or dumb people who cant do better.
Universities and larger schools are the ones with the impressionable 18yr olds or slightly older upper classmen.
Either way, Samadhi wins. He is cool enough to boink young girls. _________________ "I didn't know she was your sister I swear!"

Elementary Statistics:
The class was mainly women. They were generally quite boinkable, at least three ranking "have trouble thinking while I'm talking to you" hot. The teacher aint too shabby either. I do have a thing for Asian hotties though.
Physics:
Two women, completely unboinkable.
World music:
Tonight's the first night, should be interesting. It's a late class so I expect some older people.
Logic and Critical thinking:
I don't start this one for a few weeks. |

Heh.
Quite Boinkable Woman: Hi! What are you studying there, Samadhi?
Samadhi: Uhhh... I'm going over the teat-test.
QBW: The what?
Samadhi: I meant the t-test! I'm running my hands over the t-test!
QBW: You're what?
Samadhi: I'm looking at distributions of the same thighs!
QBW: The same thighs?
Samadhi: Size! The same size! See, look! It's right here in my pants!
QBW: What? That's it, I'm out of here.
Samadhi: On my paper! I meant the teat-test is right here on my paper!
QBW: Whatever. (stomps off)
Samadhi (aside): Well, that went better that I expected. |

Well, one girl already introduced herself to me in Stats after I answered her question (that the teacher failed to answer satisfactorily). I'll be damned if I can remember her name though. Brenda? Pamela? Damn, I even *tried* to remember, but 3 hours of music class (and the hardest damn seats in the world that actually made parts of my physiology go numb, the good parts) drove the name from my mind. I can work around that though.
As for physics, no. To get truly hot women, you have to be seen with hot women. You could look like quasimodo, but if you're with a hot chick, other hot chicks will assume you've got something going on. If they see you with ugly girls, you will never be considered in their league. Plus, chicks are inherantly backstabbing, so when one hot chick sees another hot chick with a guy, they'll try to steal that guy to prove that they're the hotter chick. |

Well, you didnt mention that Rico Suave was already working on a girl within the first hour.
You do know that you are very likely to have oh.. pens.. and oh.. paper to write the girl's name down right? Here is a hint: Write down the phone number too. _________________ "I didn't know she was your sister I swear!"
