Are we certain it was him? I thought it was a guest post and I didn't log in to check the IP before it was deleted. (Which I think was wrong... the content was in extremely poor taste and I can see deleting it, but the post should have been left alone for tracking purposes.)

I'm not very happy about it either, but the GL has been growing a lot in the past few years, and something like this was probably inevitable. I certainly can't come up with anything to say in arg's defense, as his goal in the past month or so seems to have been purely to disrupt things. It's a pity, because if you read some of his earliest posts, he showed a bit of promise...I wonder sometimes just where things went wrong. Melancholy

If it's any consolation, here's a thread from another discussion board I frequent that gives a little perspective to the 'one member banned' milestone.

Edit: I whole-heartedly support banning him again. I assumed that he would have some respect for other people upon returning from exile, but he doesn't seem to care about other people, or respect basic forum etiquette.

Pretty sure I didn't -- my last two finals were on Sunday, Feb. 26. Then I had an assignment to hand in until March 1. Until then, I had no time to breathe, let alone work on the GL. Then I had to finish my match for a tournament on scum, deadline March 2. Then I had to get some stuff done at work that I neglected when I studying for my finals. Then I went to say farewell to a friend who's flying abroad for a couple of months.
Gee, I make it sound almost as though there are other things in my life than fixing the GL against registration of spambots.

I'm assuming your premise that there is feedback from an unsuspecting human is correct.

To solve that, I have two thoughts:
1. Make the test image not one image, but several images set next to each other. If the bots retrieve justification images perhaps multiple images would throw them off.
2. Make registrations require authentication by a mod. I find this onorous and....unskillful, but it would certainly hinder bots.

I have no idea what your other thoughts might be, but I just thought I'd chime in.
