I took a nap this afternoon before class and woke up around 7:30. Missed class, but I slept for 6 hours. So ~shrug~

Although, it's not going to be easy falling asleep now.

Just realized that after next semester, I'll be 7 hours (two or three classes) from a Math minor, and could also possibly manage a German Minor to go with my Physics and Engineering majors.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about that.

I had to report some shipmates who sent spam to all of the enlisted on the ship (the forward-this-email-and-you'll-get-money-from-Microsoft hoax). I wouldn't have officially reported it, but four different people sent it to the entire ship. That's really annoying, besides the whole not-supposed-to-send-spam-on-government-computers thing.

So I did the correct thing, but I hope they don't get into any actual trouble (permanent record wise).

Stupid spam.

Spam spam spam...er, sorry.

I have food! But it's not good food, due to the lack of delicious food options in my house.

But it's 2am here, no chance of my going out and getting anything, so my legs are tied.

Some of you may remember an incident involving my brothers school issued laptop, myself, and the school tech support.

Well, my parents have refused to pay the $250 bill.

So today, the school district sends a delinquency notice with a threat to send the matter to the state (as well as tacking on another $75) citing the agreement signed at the beginning of the year concerning the price to pay should the laptop become damaged.

It turns out that my parents never signed the agreement.

If they didn't sign the agreement, is that better or worse? You could argue that it was the school's fault for not ensuring that the agreement was signed before the laptop was issued, but they could come back saying that it was the parent's responsibility to sign the agreement knowing that their child would need to use the laptop. *shrug* I hope everything turns out alright.

Speaking of the stupidity of school boards/administrators/principals/teachers, it is TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) week, and only three out of the four days do i have to go in for these tests. After the tests, we only have two hours of schooling. Each of our class periods are only thirty minutes long.

I didn't have to go to school until 1:40 pm today. Tell me, why do they do this? Almost none of the teachers are doing anything. I myself did nothing today except take two quizzes. Surely that could have been held off and saved for next week instead of making me get ready for two hours of school. *shakes head* And I'm told that the state senate is trying to lengthen summer break but cut down Christmas break to one week and no other breaks throughout the year. I guess it's good that next year will be my last.

I was able to help a customer find a fairly common item my immediate manager said he'd never heard of, and couldn't even pronounce.

This makes me happy, because I did a Good Thing, but it also makes me sad, because this guy is my manager, for cryin' out loud. He's paid to know the produce department inside out.

Shocked I like the long Christmas break that our school district has. If they're going to make a change, it would be nice if they required schools to give the entire Thanksgiving week off. The district that I lived in until 2001 did so. When we moved where we are now, we made plans to take a vacation like we always did during that week. It wasn't until early November that we realized the kids would miss two days of school that week (they get Wed - Fri. off). Now we've learned that very little gets done in class those two days anyway.

Better yet, I wish they'd go to year-round schooling and give us three separate month-long breaks. The first year after I moved to Texas the elementary school my son attended was in the second year of a year-round trial. They dropped it because so many families complained that their children in different grades were off at different times. Well, if they'd do it at every level in stead of just elementary it would work.

Anything but more time off in the hottest motnhs of the year!

I agree completely! I mean, we're in one of the hottest states in the US. What are they thinking?! I also discovered that our school doesn't use its snow days on actual snow days, but rather in the spring when they do us no good. Hello! Give us our snow days on days with snow so we can play in it. GOSH!

I'm not sure how I feel about year-round school. I understand it would be nice to have three month-long vacations, but that means we're going to school more than we are now. In fact, I think it's about 50-70 days more. If we got like every Friday off as well, I could agree.

I would hate to have time off any time other than the summer...when else can you enjoy sunlight from 3am to 12pm?
Having a longer break (atleast 8 weeks) allows students to pre-college summer programs.
But summer could be cut down a bit to have more days off during the year. I would also prefer a longer school day if it meant more days off.
And zap all the multi-day testing. Atleast Kodiak was smart enough to have three days completely off for students who had passed.

I was happy that 6/7 replied. I was sad that groza wasn't buzzed :)

Breaking the news about my impending America trip to my dad.

Sad because he was all disappointed in me that I hadn't talked to him before making my plans.
Happy because he took it well, and is quite interested now.

Terrified by his initial reaction.
Amused by his follow-up reaction - consisting of this interaction.
"You're not going to have enough money."
"It's already paid for."
"Where in America are you going?"
"Just the northwest."
"Where in the northwest? Portland? Seattle?"
*amusement* "....Yes. ...In that order."
"Oh."
A pause.
"You're not going to have enough money. You're converting to American dollars, you know."

Et cetera.

Managers are the people guy.

He just has to make sure you get paid, the employee schedule is correct, and that the other guy isnt eating the apples while on the floor. Some even do inventory systems by hand instead of the fancy automated system. The eggheads at the bottom are the ones supposed to know 50 types of onions.

So today I have this "tutorial" thing with my english history professor. I was supposed to read 3 books and then go talk to him. It was scheduled for 8am this morning. I had to wake up early and everything but managed to get there with a few minutes to spare (go me). But he's not there. I swear to God the guy is senile. i mean he's 80 something years old, knows a hell of a lot about history, but can't remember what he talked about 5 minutes ago. So he must have forgotten. Grr. got up early for nothing.

On the other side it meant I got some stuff done this morning (took a long walk for exersize, got some milk for where i work--video rental place but we also do ice cream and milkshakes--walked the dog...etc. Still slightly annoyed though...hoping he'll just say I don't have to do it now. It's only 10% of our grade anyway.

Another thing that makes me middle of the road: i'm getting some sort of honor thing today for foreign languages (phi sigma iota??) I forget. I don't care and don't really want to go. perhaps I'm cynical but it just seems like one of those resume building things where you're a "member" and you don't really do anything. Plus, they'll want money from me later. Oh well. I'm going so I don't offend my professors who are "honoring" me.

I stayed up till 5 am this morning talking to a female. I haven't done that in years.

On the other hand, it was an ex-girlfriend from 5 years ago, really bad, messy breakup and we hadn't talked to eachother since. Suprisingly pleasent conversation.

When I was a little kid, my mother would comb my hair. She always parted it the same way. When I got older, it took at least a year of combing it differently before it finally looked sensible and stayed parted the way I combed it.

We got the quote from a gardener for the major restructuring of our garden, including removing the lawn. The bad news is that the amount was about twice the maxium that we had in mind. The good news is that I've decided to do it myself the coming months. The bad news is that I am not used to that type of work. The good news is that I want to lose weight anyway.

Have had much to do with the end of the semester approaching. Having an extremely productive day would net me 5 hours of sleep, if I was lucky. 3 or 4 has been normal.

My body finally shut itself down completly yesterday afternoon. I essentially passed out and slept for four hours. All attempts to wake me failed, and my family was beginning to worry.

Woke up, cooked supper, went to work just as supper was finished cooking, got home from work tried to knock out some of the work I'd planned on doing during the 4 hours I was out. Didn't get a lot done. Went to bed, woke up 6 hours later to go to work, slept another hour, came to class.

11 hours of sleep makes me happy.
Not getting anything done doesn't.

Meh.

Having my work 'stomped on' by Lecturer-Zilla yesterday = bad
Buying a large sponge cake with icing and eating it all = good
Non-GL relevant messed up mind crap = bad
Getting a tree's worth of written work done = good

That makes me about average, right?

Two wrongs made a right today.
My boss's wife was supposed to pick me up at the train station so I could go into work. Unfortunately, she was more than an hour late. Equally unfortunately, my phone is dead. Which means she can't contact me, and I can't contact her. Which means I take the next train home, and make sure I'm unreachable all afternoon too.
