I wasn't really sure where to put this.

I don't know why, but I've taken to lurking around the GL instead of actually posting. This must change! I'm going to be in Vienna for the next two months, and will hopefully be relaying tales of my adventures (though probably no pictures Dispirited as I don't own a camera) instead of just reading what other people have posted before disappearing into the shadows.

Expect something from me within the next two months. Hopefully more than one post.

My neighbor got robbed.

Bad: This guy's apartment is across the hallway from mine. Our front doors face each other. This has me a bit paranoid (hell, *I* can pick my lock)

Good: Clearly his very loud stereo equipment was stolen, because I no longer hear it rattling my bones. I sure won't miss that.

The TV show 'Firefly' is so good. SO GOOD. I have been happily working my way through season one. I only have one episode left to watch so i started looking for season two.... which does not seem to exist! Surprised They cancelled this brilliant show after one season???

Oh well, at least I have season 1 of Twin Peaks to watch after I finish Firefly.

[Edit: This would have fit better in the annoyed thread. Or in a flabbergasted thread, if we had one.]

Well, not to rain on your parade or anything, but Twin Peaks is even more brilliant and was cancelled after two seasons.

I have not watched Firefly, but I have heard repeatedly that it's good. Yes, it was cancelled after one season (according to Wiki, they didn't even let it finish the season). Blame Fox, canceller of other shows such as Family Guy, Futurama, and Arrested Development.

They did make a movie, though -- Serenity.

In Firefly they have some very interesting characters, like a prostitute character who is the most respected person on the ship and held in highest regard... not just in spite of her profession, but because of it. Also, a mixed race couple, completely right for each other, and the black woman pretty much wears the pants in the relationship. I found it slightly mind-blowing, in a good way. I just wonder if these kinds of themes were a bit much for ... whoever makes the decisions about TV shows.

Serenity is right at the top of my list of movies to watch, yeah Ecstatic Happiness

Twin Peaks marathon watch starts tonight Felicitous Two seasons is better than one, at least.

BTW I've only seen 1 or 2 episodes of Twin Peaks, but from what I saw Antrax is wrong, wrong, wrong. Twin Peaks might be "interesting" like Blue Velvet or Wild at Heart or whatever but if that's all it is, it's got nothing on Firefly.

But, I'll make a point of getting Twin Peaks next.

Yeah, I was briefly in the same room as a Shakespearean play one day, and I can tell you, the whole Shakespeare thing is so overrated.
Firefly is a nice TV series. Some of the characters are cute. It showed potential.
Twin Peaks is, IMO, the pinnacle of all televised creation. As simple as that. It's not an opinion many people share, but that's my opinion.

~blinks~
Unless you want to rely on the PCP theorem, you can't really estimate how good something is by watching a couple of episodes. So telling me I'm "wrong, wrong, wrong" after having sampled two episodes (which could mean you've seen the entire pilot, or the pilot and the first episode. Or, even worse, watched two random episodes, which is a catastrophe, considering the fact it's a very plot-driven series) is akin to you telling me I'm wrong in thinking factoring composite numbers is difficult, because every composite number you've ever met was easily factorable.
So, fallacies?

I've never seen Firefly, but Twin Peaks was the only TV show that I've ever made a conscious effort to set aside time to watch. My wife and I taped the one episode that we had to miss, but watched it that evening. And I agree with Antrax that you can't judge that show by watching a couple of episodes. The storylines all interweave between each other and across episodes.

Twin Peaks was brilliant.

I came back from hospital today, where my wife has just undergone her 9th operation in 4 years. She's back on the ward from theatre, no complications. I'm thankful for that. (She nearly died in theatre while undergoing hysterectomy, and had a major arterial bleed. Since then she's had recurrent abscesses, due to the many stitches made in controlling the bleeding). Still it doesn't look a great prognosis, still seems to be treating the symptom not the cure, ie drained the current abscess rather than eradicate the stitches that weren't absorbed from first op.
I might have put this in the "What made you miserable today" thread, but I'm trying to stay positive.

I've just handed in a law essay this week, relating to contracts, consideration, and duty. Found out afterwards that I've done around 300 words less than everyone else on my course did. I'm hoping that they just ramble and that I didn't leave anything important out. Confused

Thanks Talitha!
She's "OK" but in a lot of pain still. They made 3 goes at an epidural before the procedure so she's been suffering a lot with associated headaches (slowly starting to wear off) and leg/backaches, as well sickness (her usual side-effect of a general anaesthetic). In addition, it seems the abscess is coming back already (believe me, she's a past master at knowing the difference between abscess pain and post-operative pain). And on top, she now has a cold, yet still she's "OK" - sometimes she even smiles and jokes!

And hopefully once you're in the post, they'll see how they can't do without you and increase from 35 to 65 weeks/year.... er.... um... 58? 92?

This is overstated. It would have been more accurate to say "I saw a Shakespearean play one day, and I can tell you, the whole Shakespeare thing is so overrated." Or, at a stretch, you might have said, "I watched one act of a Shakespearean play one day, and I can tell you, the whole Shakespeare thing is so overrated." But those are still fallacious.

Because you ignore the fact that I've seen other works by David Lynch. So, perhaps the most accurate analogy would be "I've seen many of Shakespeare's plays and an act of this one. I doubt this one is any more impressive than his other works."

And his other works are far less enjoyable than Firefly.

Finally, I think you were whooshed. Talitha's old title was 'wrong, wrong, wrong' I used that very phrase against her in a mafia game. She turned out to be right, right, right. Hence the title.

BTW I did state that I'll make a point of watching Twin Peaks, which should imply an open mind. (Unfortunately, DS9 and Voyager are at the top of my queue. But TP is right behind it. I'll probably get them in ~2 months.)

Be sure to give DS9 time to develop. From what I've heard of the first season-ish, give it a good helping of time. Or just skip to later seasons. Felicitous

Today is my last day of employment at a job I've held for nearly nine years. I am sad to leave the coworkers who have also been here for a long time, but happy because since our acquisition by an outfit out of California over two years ago, my boss has been someone who only communicated with me if he had a problem. I like to be able to learn from my superiors and working under him I have found that to be impossible.

Twin Peaks Season One (on my netflix queue) suddenly went to 'Saved' meaning it isn't going to be available for a long time. MotR because it was brought up here before. And because while it's annoying, I still have a lot of star trek to slog through, so maybe it will be fixed by the time I want it.

I got a D in my E&M class. This alone is enough to make me utterly miserable. I'm told the first crappy grade is always the hardest.

Middle of the Road, though, because if I get an A in Thermal (very likely), I can then get an A or a B in my chem class, and with all my other classes, my GPA will 3.47 or 3.13, depending upon the chem grade.

Of course, if I get B's in both, I'm screwed.

Twice now i ve interviewed with Children's Hospital Boston for two separate positions; each time the interview went amazing with the interviewer really loving me and thinking I am fully able and qualified for the position, as well as being a good fit for their staff. Each time, however, they always have a second candidate, who is further along in the interview process whom they are considering before deciding whether to bring me in for second interviews for the same position. In the first position, the other candidate got hired and I am now waiting to hear back on the second position. Its awesome how much each dept. head has liked me, but so frustrating to be a constant first runner up. Half Frown

Although it's much more annoying with regards to employment, that used to happen to me in one of my high school classes. I would always have the second or third highest grade on the tests, and the person/people above me would always change. I didn't even have the highest average because I didn't do homework in those days.
