I live in constant apprehension of the day when he becomes Alfonso Soriano, getting paid an unreasonable amount of money to play 120 games a year for the Cubs at an above average, but hardly superstar level. By the end of the contract, I doubt he'll even be "above average," anymore.

If anyone had predicted that Cleveland and Seattle would have winning records halfway into June before the season and put their money where their mouth is, they would have made a bundle.

Asdrubal Cabrera for the All-Star game! Jeter doesn't deserve it this year.

The Diamondbacks are tied for first place with The Giants and they play each other this afternoon. I'm so excited that I might check the score once or twice while I'm at work.

Figures the Indians would screw up and wind up 4 games behind the Tigers. Not only that, but they traded 4 players including their top 2 pitching prospects for mediocre Ubaldo Jimenez and got pretty much nothing for Orlando Cabrera...Idiots

I might have slightly exaggerated when I said The Diamondbacks were unbeatable since they just lost five in a row. But they're still in first place.

The Diamondbacks lead The Padres 5 to 0 in the sixth. That makes it four wins in a row for The Diamondbacks.

Nine wins in a row. The Diamondbacks might never lose another game.

Pshaw, a temporary setback. We had a little slump over the past 6 games, but we broke out of it today, with a go-ahead grand slam by Big Papi. In a week -- probably before the weekend is over, we'll be back on top.

The Red Sox are 1˝ games behind The Yankees now but it doesn't matter. One of them will be the best division winner and the other will be the wild card team.

The Diamondbacks have lost three in a row and the Giants have won seven in a row. But the Arizona Cardinals are 1 and 0 so who cares about baseball?

The Phillies and The Tigers have clinched their divisions.

The Red Sox are 4˝ games behind The Yankees and will get the wild card spot.

The Arizona Cardinals are also in first place. Of course, it's a tie for first place at 1 and 1 in a division that's 2 and 6 so far, but still, first place!

You clearly are underestimating Boston's ability to choke. We may have broken the curse, but I'm 50 years old and have a lot of Red Sox history to draw on. I still assume they will choke in the stretch. (And do NOT mention Bucky Dent.)

I'm canceling all of my plans so that I can watch the game tonight, but at the same time knowing in the back of my mind that I'm going to regret it.

Once a Sox fan, always a Sox fan. I've got that same sense of optimism clashing with pessimism that summed up everything prior to 2004.

The way this is written, my first read was that you had been planning to watch the game, but you canceled that plan.

I'll be rooting against the Reds. Sox, birds, whatever.

Should be clearer now...

Sox up 3-2, Rays down 6-0. Looking good so far, but still not confident.

ESPN calculates that the home team, down by 1 run in the 5th inning, with one out and a man on third (as the Orioles do right now) has a 53% win probability.

UPDATE: Orioles get that guy on third thrown out at the plate (which dropped the Orioles win probability from 53% to 42%, the next out dropped it to 27%), and the Rays go down 7-0 (3% win probability)
