Once Upon a Time in the West - If you've ever liked westerns and haven't seen this one, you owe it to yourself, but be forewarned - it's different (that's why you should see it). It's almost three hours long, and the pace through almost all of it is slow, but that's part of what makes it great.

I really like Charles Bronson's character in that.
I almost bought it the other day, it was only 10 bucks at best buy

Henry Fonda plays a great villain too - not a typical role for him.

The Exorsist-the Original w/the deleated scenes added.

3 1/2 out of 5 Stars.

I can understand why at the time of its release it was terrifying and for the most part it holds up today, but it is dated. I would recomend it to anyone, if you like that type of movie.

50 First Dates

3 out of 5 Stars

I have seen this movie a few times now. The first time I watched it I wasn't that into it, then one nioght I was bored and there was nothing else on so I watched it again and have found a new appreaciation for it.

DIG! - This movie chronicles the rise to stardom of the band known as "The Dandy Warhols," while also chronicling the total mess of a band known as "The Brian Jonestown Massacre." An interesting comparison between a well-balanced commercially successful rock group and a not-so-successful group of musically inclined drunks! I'd never actually listened to the music of either band before seeing the film, but after seeing it, I still don't intend to.
On the whole, I liked the film, but heroin abuse makes me queazy, and heroin addiciton combined with creative musician types makes me sad.
***, or, for The Master, ***** for gratuitous drug abuse and filth!

...well, it may not have been entirely gratuitous seeing as some of it was central to the saga of 'The BJM', but they certainly drove the point home.

The plot was too ridiculous for me. I mean, what kind of girl would try so hard to help someone that had abducted her, to the point that she falls in love with him? For that matter, who kidnaps somebody, honestly expecting that they will do you a favour, in exchange for "I'll be your best friend?" I'll swallow a much more preposterous plot if that's the point of the movie, but this one seemed like it was supposed to be fairly realistic. Maybe I missed a memo or something.
The acting was quite good, especially when everyone (mostly Billy, but not strictly) was angry. Which is part of what I didn't like. The angry I mean, not the good acting. I'm a bit of an emotional sponge and it made me very tense.
The verdict: ***. Better than average, but not something I'd watch often.

Dude, you missed the memo entirely. This is probably the most fantastic (original meaning, not the new) story I have ever seen, not to mention one of the most romantic. Two scenes should have tipped this off to you: the father singing and the tap dance scene. Impossibilities to real life, but highly stylaized and outlandish. For me, it seems to be a romance of the modern world with exagerations. Over the top parents create a harsh, introverted, asshole. He is a man tempered by torment and neglect, stuck in the past, but pines for love. Layla is not so much a person, but more of the concept of this desired love and portrays to the audience Her effect on him. This is a powerful movie that expresses themes and emotions which most "romances" barely touch. By the end, after the cookie scene and when the music starts to play, I find myself overwhelmed by happiness and on the verge of joyful tears. Augmented by its cinemetography and acting, it is a perfect movie for me.

Forgot about my latest movie:
The Fearless Vampire Killers or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck
What a hilarious movie, especially strange coming from Roman Polanski, director of the dark, serious Knife in the Water, Chinatown, Rosemary's Baby, Ninth Gate, etc. Great performances by Jack MacGowran and Alfie Bass that had me in hysterics. Certainly worth checking out for fans of horror (especially Dracula), but still funny if you like to watch some wacky antics. Also, for those who have seen it, was the end not the best? Ouais!

Internet Stranger is exhibiting the classic pre-convention behavior - trolling.
Rumor has it, he really is a nice guy. He's just trying to throw everyone for a loop before they meet him. (Ask Huey, he knows)

IS hopes everyone will be incredibly surprised when he bakes toll house cookies for everyone and in general behaves like a real creme puff for the entire meet-up.

I don't understand what the fuss is about. IS's posts provide a subtle earthy counterpoint to some of the loftier posts - a gentle contrast to the sometimes orotund. Shall we compare the music of the violin to that of the kettle drum? And yet the symphony would be much the less were it lacking either of them. And when I hear this symphony, I find myself overwhelmed by happiness and on the verge of joyful tears. Isn't that why we're all here?

Ah, sarcasm. Felicitous When I see any post by the beloved and adored extro, I can't help but burst into a rousing song about the benefits of irony as part of a balanced diet, and then stop to gaze enraptured upon every subtle nuance and witty remark that composes the most beautiful of overcontrived and crazy comments. Is it not through this that we all learn and grow? Do we express our sense of humour in vain? *sniffle* Something like that, anyway. Enthusiastic Grin

I haven't seen any movies lately, but The Fifth Element is still my 2nd favourite film ever (and I'm not even a sci-fi fan). If you haven't seen it, go go go. My favourite is The Truman Show, despite it having made me paranoid. Such is life.

I was going to say I just saw Star Wars and Lord of the Rings for GL reasons but On Golden Pond is on. Good movie and Henry Fonda's last film.

Jane is in it and she looks great butt she tries too hard to look hot. First of all she has some kind of fake tan and then during a scene where she's scampering around in her bikini, she noticeably keeps pointing her toes (while sitting a wriggling around on the dock) and keeps tighting all her muscles - what a tart. I liked her better in Barbarella.

Still a good movie. It's hilarious when Henry Fonda throws the freshwater clams into the air and then strikes them with the wooden canoe paddle. (Too bad he doesn't use it to spank Jane's extremely buff butt)

Quirky. Surprised to see full frontal (male) nudity. They never gave you a clear shot of his face, but I think it might have been Antrax.... or Agamemnon. Come to think of it, he was yellling, but I didn't detect an accent, so probably wasn't either of them. Maybe Samadhi.

Sideways was interesting. I mean, before seeing it, I was expecting it to not live up to all the artsy-fartsy hype about it. And the fact that it is credited with rising sales of Pinot Noir, and declining sales of Merlot, makes me think it appealed to a bunch of spineless saps. But afterwards, I kind of liked it. Yet I like Merlot, and haven't yet had a Pinot Noir that didn't strike me as watery. But I don't have the sort of refined palate the likes of the main character. There was something sad about this character who has this incredible appreciation for fine wines, but who [spoiler?]steals cash from his mother to afford himself the luxury.

Last three films I saw, from best to worst.

Downfall - a German movie about the last days of Hitler. Absolutely stunning. Doubt I will see a better film this year.
Untold Scandal - Korean version of Dangerous Liaisons, which looks gorgeous but you can't empathise with the characters enough for it to work properly.
Kingdom of Heaven - Ridley Scott's not-as-good-as-Gladiator movie about the Crusades. Direction and cinematography first-rate, acting and script somewhat less than first-rate. Why do I think I shall be saying the same thing about SWIII? *nudge*

[And, fwiw, I thought Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy was fascinating: a 1* movie for Adams fans, probably a 3.5* (out of 5) for most other people. I'm a long-standing Adams fan, so I didn't like it, but it was clearly using Adams' ideas and not some random script-fixer's. And there were some parts that were genuinely inspired: the new Marvin was superb, and Zaphod's second head was handled interestingly.]

Of course the hopeful part - and it didn't really dawn on me until a few moments (at least) after it was over, was that you know there is a good chance this guy is going to hook up with the girl, who's into horticulture, and with his appreciation for this particular grape and how to make it into wine, and her professional interest in growing, and her appreciation for his appreciation, that his passion for wine will turn into something more than just drinking it.
