I attempted to read the Gunslnger once. I stopped, though, because there was nothing going on. So does it get better later on in the series?

I noticed an interesting thing: I love King's novellas, but I can't possibly get through his novels at all. And for most people, it's the other way around (or so I've heard)

It is one of the best series that I have ever read. It definitely gets better, IMO. You should really pick it up again and read it, if you're in to that genre of writing.

The Gunslinger *is* a pretty slow book. The ones after that move a lot faster, especially with the introduction of more main characters starting in book 2.

book 4, Wizard and Glass, isn't really my favourite, but it's still good. It's mostly a flashback story designed to introduce one important concept, with some other small details, and as a whole works well as a book. Its contribution to the series as a whole is key, but minimal.

I still liked it better than Golden Compass, although GC was very good. I might have voted GC over some of the other books in the competition.

I finished Gunslinger, and the 2nd one...what was it called...3 doors? Something like that?

Then I got into book 3...and man did it get boring fast. I think I stopped about half way through. It was worse than the 2nd book, which was pretty bad. I can't believe he's still making them.

The first was the best in my opinion.

In that case, I guess I won't bother.

Gunslinger is the worst one IMO. I've read the first four, and each was better than the last. I plan on buying the other 3 soon (thank you, Intel) and we'll see if it continues like that.

I liked the second better than the third, and Intel isn't giving me money, but otherwise... Cannibal

But otherwise, he just got through being a cannibal and forgot to wipe his mouth. That poor Intel employee.

I haven't read and Pullman, people keep telling me to, though. The Dark Tower series is good, I haven't got past the 5th book. Life has a habit of keeping you busy.

I really hope that King's book makes it.

Not really. It's just that every time I want a book to win, and say so, it usually doesn't

Well I cold break the tie but having only read one of the two I am reluctent to. I wasn't impressed with Golden Compass so I'd be tempted to vote for the one I haven't read on the hopes it was better Extreme Delectation

No need. I mean, if the book really sucked, well I guess, that would be grounds, but otherwise, wouldn't it be just a bit unfair?

Do you really think that everyone who has voted in these match ups read both books? I highly doubt it.

Look, we should just take a poll to see who wants King's book to win and if more people want that, then we let his book move on.

Wait. We're already doing that. Embarrassed That was really my first thought.

I actually read Golden Compass, but I didn't really like it. I finished it, but never moved on with the series. However, since I have actually read it, I guess I'm kinda rooting for it.

Mmmm...13-13 now. I think someone really is playing with the poll. I'm almost tempted to use one of my other names (I hardly ever use them, so don't try to figure it out) to make the one I want win, but that would be poor sportsmanship. Not that this is a game, but you get the idea.

I may have to check the voting record and just see who hit 11 first.

I don't know, I'm reluctant to just flip a coin, as there's not actually a rush yet, but I'm not going to be on much over the weekend either, so I'll see what I can think of.
