To-do List (2004 redesign)

To-do list:

a. Gender indicator in profile. May be useful, especially for men named things like jadesmar, amb etc.. (or women named Max
(requires a php mod and an update to the profile view)

b. Last post hover text (size increase)
(tracking down the code, it may be in a php file)

c. "All" as an option in the page selection thread view links.
(possibly a feature request - as a php mod is required)

d. Change "Post Subject: " to "Reply Number: "
(requires modification the lang_main.php file)

e. Shorten the permission summary at the bottom of threads, replace with a single "You can post/reply/edit/mod/etc. this forum".
(requires modification the lang_main.php file)

f. Icon explanation may not be required.

g. PALADIN icons at the bottom of the page.
(I have submitted one modification already, however, people think that the wx3 bar is too long - Discuss)

i. Possibly remove or shorten the left side of the thread view page.

j. change visited link colour
(requires access to the site Administration panel)

k. a complete set of simlies should be available in the editor.
(requires access to the site Administration panel)

l. optimize editiing box width
(tracking down the code for the width)

m. change the hidden background colours as per reply 18.
(requires trying to find the sneaky line of code with the background colours - i.e. looking for it) [edit by Skellum] I thought I could spend some time finding what needed to be changed to fix this and I looked but it escapes me for now. I'll look again. [/edit]

Any suggestions on how to best organize everyone's work effort would also be appreciated.

However,

Question(s):

Some people get pop-up messages when they receive new private messages.

Would it be good or bad to produce a small pop-up screen based on this for the Interact, Instant Messager link from which you could choose AIM or AIM Express? (i.e. Clicking the link would produce a small popup with two links on it).

Should we poll the viewing audience?

I can access my work from webmail. When I get new mail, a small popup appears in the lower right corner and I can click it. It also stays on top, while the focus of what I'm doing remains the same. I'd be annoyed if the popup interrupted my typing. It just needs to be obvious enough to see, but not intrusive.

I don't think it needs a poll if it's non-instrusive. It will probably need a toggle option in the profile.

Regarding Nerdware and Interact - I never really used them, so I have no idea what features they had I would have to replicate. I thought the Nerdware was hosted elsewhere?

If I recally correctly - Interact has the links to chatting software and the GL room on AOL. Is it possible to have a page you can refresh to show who is online now with the ability to PM/Email them, and another section showing a user's PMs?

I'll have to go against the AIM pop-up window. Newbies might not realize what AIM is. They would need to information on where to download, etc. I know it seems strange, but I know first hand. The only reason I began chatting was because GLC was just beginning in the time frame that I had AOL, and I was able to IM others and get assistance to actually get an AIM name that could access GLC.

I am thinking of changing that Wx3 logo, the rectangle doesn't seem to work very well. Do we need to use that exact rectangle or can we redesign it slightly.

I am thinking of something like this for the footer.

I like the long on, I think it should be the exact length of the header icons, and serving as some sort of fancy underline to the whole site.

The small one if centered would produce a sort of elipses (...) effect to the page outline. Since it would be smaller than the header icons and larger than the php copyright label.

I think the long one has got strange space in the empty black and white areas. I like that it underlines the page but the logo and the text looks unbalanced. You should at least make the text un-centered.

How about setting the background color of these tables closer to the images that are used to fill them? Perhaps 2785B4 and 29D2D8. The screen shots are from two different occasions and are only to show the table fills.

For item j:

The problem with the visited link colors and the other problem of php not identifying hyperlinks properly when not posted with the "URL" BBCode as reported here reply 10 could be fixed by changing the css.

If we remove text-decoration: none; in the link and comment out (or remove) the vistited and hover styles then links and visited links would show up as blue underlined. Is this what people are wanting? I'm not sure.

It's not likely that there are two different css "sheets". I'm not sure what the php code is calling for. Perhaps someone can e-mail or message me the relevant php code.
