Some songs, movies, commercials, etc. are so terrible that one can't help but bask in their inanity. I recently went to Alberta, Canada. It was great fun: I managed to see an avalanche (in the middle of summer) and a coyote...and a "So bad it's good" submission: a commercial for a brand of beer called Rickard's. In the commercial, a man orders this beer in a bar and then out of nowhere, monks in scarlet robes start singing the "O Fortuna" movement of Carmina Burana and slowly begin to surround the man, who just stands still and makes every effort to look as stupid as possible. Also, the words the monks sing aren't the original lyrics, but about the beer. You have to see it to know what I'm talking about. It's so bad that the first couple of times I saw it, I laughed uncontrollably.

I also humbly submit the songs "Love Isn't Easy" and "People Need Love" by ABBA. It's hard to believe that the people who made this utter tripe later went on to produce "The Winner Takes it All"!

Not sure if it's just nostalgia but...
Batman, the original series with Adam West and Burt Ward.
Spider-man animated series with the really cheap animation and groovy music.

I thought the whole point was in turn to spoof the movies/games which feature powerful choir anthemic music/voice in old languages in important moments - Star Wars III, Lord of the Rings, Final Fantasy 8, and in this guy's case, to make such a choice.

Yu-Gi-Oh.

They'd played out their Pharoah-and-associated-monsters-from-5000-years-ago storyline and ideas, so, next season, they added a plot from a villain who used to live in Atlantis, no fewer than 10,000 years ago!!!

Yes, the original Batman series! Definitely bad enough to be good.

On a tangent (but relevant): I've been trying to get my hands on the movie 'Manos' the Hands of Fate but without luck so far. Has anyone actually seen this?

It seems to be available on Amazon and they even have a special offer to buy it in conjunction with the Mystery Science Theatre version.
The review on IMDB certainly didn't mince words. Now I'm curious too.

Base Wars. It's robot baseball. You have to fight at every base, even if you're out by a mile. If you win, you're safe.

Base Wars was classic. You could win a game with your first three batters. Hell, you COULD win with your first batter if you managed to get the oponent to try to "tag" you often enough. Wink It's up there with Mutant League Hockey (ML Football wasn't as good).

We need more sports games like that.

Pretty much any adventure game from Coktel Vision, but especially Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth. I picture the developers having a meeting something like this:

DEVELOPER #1: Let's make a zany comedy!
DEVELOPER #2: Let's make a social commentary!
DEVELOPER #3: Let's make a romance!
DEVELOPER #4: Let's make a gritty noir game!
HEAD DEVELOPER: Let's make a game that tries to be all of those things, but fails miserably at all of them!
DEVELOPERS #1-4: Yay!
HEAD DEVELOPER: And let's throw in several plotlines that never actually go anywhere!
DEVELOPERS #1-4: Yay!

The pitching on Base Wars was the best. If you got the right kind of gun arm on your pitcher, you could go super fast or super slow, and then move the ball every which way. I miss that game.

What is it about the guys from the old Star Trek series that compels to them embarrass themselves? I mean, I doubt this is William Shatner's finest hour.

And, for the purposes of comparison, you can see the infinitely superior Stewie rendition Revenge most foul!

Battle Beyond the Stars. Without a doubt the worst movie I actually paid to see in a theater. And it was money well spent, because you really need to experience it on the big screen to fully savor the awfulness.

Made back in the early eighties to try to cash in on the Star Wars movies, it starred Richard Thomas as the Luke Skywalker wannabe. There's just something wrong about seeing John-boy Walton trying to be a daring young space hero. In an effort to save his planet from evil space-mutants he searches the galaxy in a spaceship with enormous breasts...

Yes, that's right. Y'see, the ship is piloted by computer with a sassy female voice, so naturally it has to sport a pair of huge space-gazongas.

I am not making this up.

Anyway, he searches the galaxy for fearless mercenaries who will fight a hopeless battle against impossible odds, for free. And naturally the galaxy happens to be swarming with such mercenaries, among them a space-valkyrie sporting a plate-metal bikini, a space cowboy complete with cowboy hat and harmonica, and a set of three-eyed space clones--well, actually, two-eyed space clones with a cheesy-looking third eye pasted on their foreheads.

I'm sure it was no 'Manos Hand of Fate', but lord, it wasn't good.

Has anybody seen the original Batman movie with Adam West?

Very bad. At one point I think Batman has a very fake looking rubber shark on his leg (trying to bit it off, of course), and he is explaining to Robin that he is trying to get to his shark repelant on his utility belt.

It get's worse from there.

As one of those poor people who sat through Manos, I can let you know that it is so bad it is soooo bad. It is not funny or enjoyable at all, which is usually what happens in these s.b.i.g. situations. It is just boring, boring, boring! Only watch it so you can see the Torgo scenes which are awesome.

I haven't seen it recently enough to remember if it was humorously horrible, but the original Little Shop of Horrors from 1960, which incidentally was Jack Nicholson's first movie, is a B movie at best. I don't remember if I was appalled or amused by the inanity.

Though from what little I've heard, the director specialized in making cheap B movies.

EDIT: okay, I just looked it up on imdb, and it wasn't Nickolson's first movie, it was his fourth, but I'll just pretend that it's his first as I've not seen the others =p]

I've caught a couple episodes of Bastard!!(anime, 6 episodes?), which is annually heckled at GenCon, and it seems to fall into this category.

In addition to being extreme melodrama and sometimes self-mocking, the maker was a big fan of American metal music of the time. The result is along the lines of "Will the Megadeth spell stop the Twisted Sister and save Castle Whitesnake? Tune in next time!"

Preferably subtitled, as I could see this being profoundly unfunny if dubbed.

A German group from the 70's called Dschingis Khan.

If you ever wanted to hear what "What Would a Drunken Sailor" sound like in disco, or about how Genghis Khan was "The Greatest Lover" (also in disco), they're the group for you.
