OK, here's a clue: the number in brackets - added below - indicates the number of words in the answer you are looking for.
It could be said that the one marked with an * should be (10) and not (5) but we can argue about that later...

Quiet illumination (5)
Dolores Del Rio (2)
Mickey’s friend is up for it (1)
Happy croc (1)
Stationmaster (2)
Serious organ (1)
Trendy period (1)
Orchestral greeting (1)
The cows came home (5)*
East Sussex playwright (3)
Crazy greyhound (1)
Broken bobsleighs (3)

---
[I'd also note that in a sense the title of the puzzle is the final answer to the puzzle too, since I couldn't figure out any other way to do it. Any suggestions as to how this might be dealt with in a different way would be welcomed.]

I doubt you are being ignored -- I suspect that people are having trouble figuring out where to start. At least I am.

I don't understand where MillerTime's answer comes from. A quick search onf "Dolores Del Rio" turns up this: http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0003123/ so the most obvious 2 word "solution" would be "Mexican star" but that doesn't seem conclusive enough.

A number of them sound like parts of cryptic clues: broken bobsleighs, for example. (The most interesting thing I can anagram "bobsleighs" into, however, is "Hogs' Bibles" or maybe "Bibles? Gosh!")

I assume that there is some truly conclusive answer for each of these. That would imply that they are all direct quotes from something or some set of things that are related. However, Googling a few of them doesn't seem to lead anywhere interesting.

Perhaps if MillterTime would explain the thinking behind his answer, then it would spark some similar thinking in some of the others.

For the first one, it seems like it's trying to clue SILENT LIGHT, which would be a one letter change of the SILENT NIGHT carol. Unfortunately the rest don't really work in that respect.

Serious organ sounded like it might be BRAVEHEART, but that doesn't get me very far either.

Yeah, there's not one clue I feel even slightly confident on enough to stick with it in order to try and work out a second answer to see if there's a pattern.

...and I can't stop thinking of a "gaytor" for a happy croc right now Cannibal

You may be closer than you think. Try combining those two approaches and see if that gets you anywhere..

Zag, I didn't think I was being ignored, merely that I'd made the puzzle too obscure which is my usual problem... Felicitous

Incidentally, it's not so much a matter of being too obscure, it's more of a matter of having not enough to really start with. Enumerations, total words lengths, and some sort of hint to theme might have helped (e.g., calling it Moxie Awards might have helped.). If Brain Boggler is an additional clue, I'm not sure what the answer is.

I totally agree with Foggy here. It's a very nice puzzle seeing the answer, but giving it a title like Foggy suggested...and maybe word lengths or a clue to word lengths...the answer Brain Boggler would have been more than solvable without hints.

Nice puzzle, once you see it.
I'm guessing that East Sussex playwright = Shakespeare in Hove, rather than Cove .
Not sure about the last one ...

For the record, the replaced letters spell out Brain Boggler, which is how the puzzle came about in the first place.

1. P = B
2. X = R
3. U = A
4. G = I
5. L = N
6. G = B
7. E = O
8. B = G
9. E = G
10. H = L
11. B = E
12. C = R

But since I couldn't make anything clever out of the new letters, I got a bit stuck.
I tried something like word lengths, and someone told me that it was far too easy as it looked as though you were after some sort of title (book, movie, song etc.) with some of them.

Thanks anyway.

I don't understand why Quiet illumination is (5) and not (4).

Because there is, contrary to popular opinion, a definite article at the beginning of that one...
