Green things appear that colour because they absorb the other colours and only reflect the green light. Thus, something that is the opposite of green will reflect every colour except for green. This will have a reddish hue.

Why not construct your antigrape from antimatter? This will be expensive, since our best efforts can only produce short-lived Hydrogen atoms.

The opposite of a shape is not really defined in physics, but you could adopt the involute as the opposite. For a grape, this will be a sort of six-pointed star, with the tips running off to infinity. (I think... is the involute even well-defined for a surface?)

I really would like to make my anti-grapes out of antimatter... any idea where I could find some? I wonder what anti-grapes would taste like? I suppose it would be a bad idea to try to eat one though, given the whole matter/anti-matter annhilation thing. And yes, I understand why red was chosen, but thats only our perception of the visible light spectrum and ignores the whole UV absorbtion, etc thing. Maybe instead of absorbing every color but green, the emit every wavelength of light but green? I suppose that would be kind of opposite.

I think we already proved the point that there is no such thing as an absolute opposite though.

Anti-grapes would probably taste like peanuts.

Well, I don't know about tasting like peanuts (me being allergic to them and all), but I'm sure they'd have that explosive kick.

Magenta.
Primary colours of light are Red Green and Blue. Remove Green and you are left with Magenta. Isn't it divine?

Except I thought the primary colours were Red, Yellow, and Blue. Green should be a secondary colour because it is made with yellow and blue. (I've also heard that it is Cyan instead of Blue and Magenta instead of Red, but that sounds odd.)

The difference between additive and subtractive color models often confuses people. Primary Colors

RGB is an additive model (like light), where red, green, and blue are primary.

CMYK is a subtractive model (like printing with ink) where cyan, magenta, and yellow are primary. (The "K" is for black.)

It's totally reasonable, of course, that the primary colors in one model are the secondary colors in the other.

Red, blue, and yellow are the traditional "primary pigments" in the art world, and are generally viewed as the axes of a 3d color space, but it must not be a convenient one to use for printers or monitors.

And now... BONUS LINKAGE!!

This page has a long and technical (but really interesting) discussion of the history of "primary colors."

It is F-ing cold out. The sign said +3°F on the way back but -43°F on the way to. Must have been too cold to read or something.

This is cold enough to freeze duct tape. Frozen duct tape will not stick to itself even.

This is cold enough to freeze the seat and shocks of a bike solid.

It is even cold enough to make the chain stiffer and not always able to catch the gear. The pedals just fly freely for a few revolutions sometimes.

I love it :)

Except they're both round. And they are both described by words with the letters "A" and "E" in them! Twisted Evil

Flirting

I got some groceries this morning. At the checkout, I was chatting with the cashier (a nice, pretty girl). My hair is fairly long, so I had to keep pushing it out of my face. As I do this, she lights up.

Conclusion: People know *how* to flirt, but they can't often tell when someone else is flirting with them. This is particularly true across gender lines. For women, playing with one's hair is a surefire flirtation tactic, for example.

Thus: Flirt in the language of the object of your intentions.

Bloc Party

Not sudden, but I realize that they are totally awesome.
